Nice Touch
The brilliant local youth charity @hackney_quest have a connection with both the new Green Party Mayor of Hackney Zoey and the Deputy Mayor Dylan.
But if you've been here nearly 20 years, you know that lots of great previous work has been done by local Labour councillors over the decades in E9. I've sat and listened to them in meetings in Hackney Wick myself.
It's typical of a class act like Hackney Quest to acknowledge that at this moment of change. There are lots of good people out there trying to do the right thing.
Long may that continue in Hackney, regardless of political party.

Scientists tell us we are in for cataclysmic climate change; we see the state implicated in foreign policy decisions that could see the UK in the International Court one day.
But the govt says don't rock the boat and if you make too much fuss, we'll use anti-terror laws. Grandmas with signs cuffed... 😪
I started running radical history tours in Hackney, because I felt people ought to know how hard our ancestors fought for basic rights.
And those struggles continue today.

If you don't know the story of Clapton CFC and what they've achieved over the last decade, it's epic. And yesterday was the culmination of a lot of hard work by the people that make this unique club tick.
Well done the players who high-five you at the end of games, well done the coaching staff who wave when you're smiling, well done the volunteers and visionaries who built/cleaned/administrated and most of all *believed*.
This is East London, and this is values-driven community football. And a safe space in troubled times. This is the Clapton.

Come together to celebrate the local indie business that keeps East London interesting.
Business Rates are killing enterprise right now. Combined with landlordism and the ongoing rinsing of UK railway arch businesses by Arch Co for their US owners Blackstone, it's a wonder there's anything non-chain left, as the beigeness encroaches ever more.

They started only a year before me in East London, but boy have they achieved a lot more! 30 people with experience of #homelessness trained as guides, countless people made aware of the issue (which apparently is *worse* than before Covid, which showed it could be fixed IF the will was there).
But they need more business! Hire them for your teambuilding, or go yourself and see a different layer of London through someone else's eyes.

You gotta love what Grow (@growhackney ) do for grassroots arts and culture in Hackney Wick.
Amid the property chicanery in East London it's a wonder they're still there. And you can see other establishments trying to copy their vibe and offering.
But they're old school HW. Still creating beautiful moments and bringing people together in a world that so often seeks to divide us.
Long may they prosper.
