Closing out Guest Slippers is @h5ien , who will bring the festival to a gentle and meditative end at our Skeleton Park stage on Saturday, May 16th!
Hsien (ä»), formerly known as Old Haunt, makes sparse and meditative music that draws from drone, traditional pop, singer-songwriter, and hymnody. For Guest Slippers he'll be joined by Markus Lake (Markus Floats, Egyptian Cotton Arkestra) and Arden Rogalsky (Princess Towers), in an acoustic trio inspired by the slow minimalism of Low and Andy Shauf.

For your Bandcamp Friday consideration: "sketches of the hand of God", a 4-song EP of demos. I've been sitting on some of these songs for close to a decade. I am very proud of them and dreamed of building a masterpiece around them, a magnum opus. I think that ambition immobilized me, and I never did anything with them. It is better for them to exist than not, so here you are: some songs (1 now, the rest in 2 weeks), recorded on my own (with some help), unadorned. To bring them into the world in any form, to let go of my attachment to the dream of what they could be. Thank you to everyone who has listened and encouraged over the years. All proceeds will be donated to @animalslebanon . Link in the usual place.
NEW SONG DROP! Today we are pre-releasing another track from Musicians For Palestine Montreal Vol. 1. Hsien offers the sparse and contemplative âCold Water,â which features a special guest appearance from violinist Jessica Moss. In Hsienâs words, the song is âa slice-of-life, real time document of the strongest beliefs from my upbringing being challenged and changed. It was not written about Palestine, but it could have been.â
Hsien is the solo project of Lucas Huang (Egyptian Cotton Arkestra, Nennen). For this track, the band consists of Markus Lake (Markus Floats), Tasy Hudson (Mara Wild, Big Brave), and Naomi McCarroll-Butler (Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Jeremy Dutcher), as well as a special guest appearance from Jessica Moss (Black Ox Orkestar, Silver Mt. Zion).
Musicians For Palestine Montreal Vol. 1 launches this Friday at La Sala Rossa! Link in our bio for tickets and to listen to the pre-released tracks.
Egyptian Cotton Arkestraâs Time & Place vinyls have arrived and we are shipping out pre-orders. Thanks to @foxy.digitalis for this lovely review of this magnificent record. Expect a release performance sometime in 2026.
