An excerpt from my piece Grief Canyon @whole.festival 2024. Created for @wakinglife.pt This piece is community specific and was created in response to the queer community members we lost that year. Little did I know I’d be taking notes from my past self to traverse this fresh grief. Life is funny that way, perpetual cycles, rituals of loving and losing. @whoreofchaos also performed on that same stage, same day. I remember they arrived like a whirlwind (late as always), their lipstick freshly applied and charmingly askew. They raked the stage with their words , aloof, charismatic , disheveled. I was upset they had missed my piece, I was relieved because I was certain they would find it corny (they both loved and disdained my sincerity). I miss you Judas. DESCENT - Ritual Grief in the Age of Scrolling Thank you to all who descended with us through the wordless rage and grief. Thank you for your openness and your tears. Thank you Judas for first telling me of the myth of Inannas descent into the underworld. I miss you , I love you, I’m sorry, forgive me. We saved you a front row seat at every show. @alicexdanger Thank you @hosekcontemporary for housing our ritual, for containing the grief so we could digest together. Gutter Gucci aka RILEY DAVIDSON (they/them) 🖤✨ Berlin-based and fiercely genre-fluid, Riley Davidson is a queer non-binary performance artist, dancer & theater maker. As an autodidact, their work moves through immersive/participatory theater, experience design, drag, contemporary dance, grief-tending, and durational performance — always shaping spaces where audiences can explore agency, vulnerability, and what it means to be together. Riley’s work can be comedic or contemplative, but it’s always sharp: a critical lens on interwoven systems of oppression — especially capitalism and its long-term impact on our collective nervous system. With each piece, they invite us to question what we take for granted, and to feel what we usually push aside. Created in response to community needs, Riley offers performance as a practice of imagining liberatory futures — where collective grief and joy become resistance. As we descend into the collapse of the empire, like Inanna, we must shed the versions of ourselves rooted in colonial ways of thinking. A container for the wordless rage and grief of our own complicity. A ritual for untangling the mess of the generations past. There is no way forward without descent. DESCENT April 8th - 10th @90mil___ black box theater Contemporary performance piece with live cello and visceral sound design. Following the myth of Inannas descent into the underworld, the story parallels the psychospirtual journey of decolonizing one’s mind. Stunning performances last Friday night @erstererster_berlin ! We had the honor to host two legendary performances. The first by @guttergucci accompanied by violinist @danielavischneider - they debuted a heartfelt performance of a person falling for a plastic bag :) The second performance was by @lizjoanmusic and @arthur.fritz - iconic duo who took over the gallery with their dreamy songs. Liz’s beautiful voice filled the space while Arthur riffed on the electronic guitar. It was a packed opening night!! Thanks to the performers and the guests. Big thanks to @rahema.z for taking these photos
