Victoria Sawal was discovered by Guillermo del Toro. She was a background actress in his movie Pacific Rim but Sawal was acting her little heart out in each take that the acclaimed filmmaker didn’t have any choice but to give her more to do in the movie. She’s since appeared in The Handmaid’s Tale, Station Eleven, and plays Lt. Naya in Star Trek: Discovery. In the latest season of The Umbrella Academy she plays Jennifer. The major plot of its final season is called ā€œthe Jennifer incidentā€ so you have an idea how big of a role it is. It’s been a little over ten years since she decided to pursue being an actress. It is never easy for Asian talents but she worked for every single break she’s received. The Toronto native was on a vacation in Batangas, Philippines when she got the invitation to self-tape an audition to play Jennifer. ā€œIn the middle of the night, I recorded it quietly in my hotel room.ā€ She’s grateful for TUA’s cast and crew, particularly @justinmin , for their warm welcome. ā€œHe was so caring and quick to advocate for me if I needed anything,ā€ Sawal says. The actress has other things in the works including a project with fellow Canadian @alexmallarijr . Victoria Sawal is just getting started, and I can’t wait to document her rise in the industry. #victoriasawal #theumbrellaacademy #jennifer @growingolden #actorslife #pinoypride #canadian #filipinocanadian @gdtreal On a side note, I’m so so so proud of Vic. When I watched the screener for TUA months ago, I didn’t know she was in it. I jumped and shrieked when I saw her. She and I have been IG friends for maybe a year or so now and she’s truly one of the sweetest persons in the world. Hi to your parents, Vic! ā¤ļøšŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦šŸ‡µšŸ‡ I filed this interview a while ago - I’m very delayed in posting but I’m so proud of our talents and it’s such a pleasure to give them the much-deserved spotlight. I know that other outlets don’t center them and it means so much that they are rightfully celebrated.

Victoria Sawal @growingolden chased her dream knowing her parents’ biggest concern wasn’t fame, it was survival. She spent a year proving she could live off her art, putting in the work wherever she could until it led her to Hollywood projects. Her story is a reminder that when you honor the grind and stay consistent, belief follows. ✨ Watch the full episode on Chats by FTV

lucky enough to sit down with someone as kind, thoughtful, and generous as Victoria (@growingolden ) for ā€œIn Our Timeā€ The importance of setting boundaries as an artists is often overlooked, despite it’s importance. Victoria speaks about how crucial it is to bet on yourself and not wait for permission to be your best self. Despite it all, you have to do what is right for yourself without compromising key morals, standards, and integrity. You’re your own compass, it’s up to you to choose which direction you want to go in. Be kind to yourself and others. Speak up. Ask for what you need. i love this girl. #documentary #docuseries #film

In honour of @handmaidsonhulu sixth and final seasonā™„ļø Here’s a little throwback to the killer ex-handmaids of season 4+5.🩸 The long cold nights were worth every moment on this incredible production. Cheers to the entire cast and crew! Playing Tyler definitely gave me one of my favourite on-screen moments in my career so far (check the last slide for the iconic Tyler lineāœ‚ļøšŸ˜ˆ) #thehandmaidstale #hulu #elisabethmoss
