Victoria Sawal was discovered by Guillermo del Toro. She was a background actress in his movie Pacific Rim but Sawal was acting her little heart out in each take that the acclaimed filmmaker didnāt have any choice but to give her more to do in the movie.
Sheās since appeared in The Handmaidās Tale, Station Eleven, and plays Lt. Naya in Star Trek: Discovery.
In the latest season of The Umbrella Academy she plays Jennifer. The major plot of its final season is called āthe Jennifer incidentā so you have an idea how big of a role it is.
Itās been a little over ten years since she decided to pursue being an actress. It is never easy for Asian talents but she worked for every single break sheās received.
The Toronto native was on a vacation in Batangas, Philippines when she got the invitation to self-tape an audition to play Jennifer. āIn the middle of the night, I recorded it quietly in my hotel room.ā
Sheās grateful for TUAās cast and crew, particularly
@justinmin , for their warm welcome. āHe was so caring and quick to advocate for me if I needed anything,ā Sawal says.
The actress has other things in the works including a project with fellow Canadian
@alexmallarijr .
Victoria Sawal is just getting started, and I canāt wait to document her rise in the industry.

On a side note, Iām so so so proud of Vic. When I watched the screener for TUA months ago, I didnāt know she was in it. I jumped and shrieked when I saw her. She and I have been IG friends for maybe a year or so now and sheās truly one of the sweetest persons in the world. Hi to your parents, Vic! ā¤ļøšØš¦šµš
I filed this interview a while ago - Iām very delayed in posting but Iām so proud of our talents and itās such a pleasure to give them the much-deserved spotlight. I know that other outlets donāt center them and it means so much that they are rightfully celebrated.
