Baptist footstools 🫶 only available @agoprojects 🌈 Baptist is a series of stools that probes the legacy of colonialism and the complexities of ownership. By recreating seats once exchanged in African markets, the project invites reflection on how objects carry stories of power, trade, and cultural inheritance—challenging us to reconsider what it means to possess and value the things around us. 42 colours available 🌈

Preparation is the foundation of building with raw earth. On site, everything begins before anything is visible. Material choices, understanding the soil, knowing how layers meet and hold — this is where longevity is decided. Raw earth is not a product you impose, but a material you work with. It asks for attention, patience, and a certain humility. Without that, even the most refined finish won’t last. These images were taken during a historical renovation in Kuruma, South Japan, while visiting our friends from @fukamachisaken — a place where care and craft still guide the process. Sustainability doesn’t start at the surface. It starts in what you don’t see. What lies beneath determines what endures — so what are you really building on?

I arenari — — an imaginary laboratory — created for the SAO festival in Farrera, Catalonia. Built on the remains of a ruin, it is a space where knowledge arises through practice and through the passage of travelers. This laboratory is a meeting place where craftsmen, thinkers, and villagers collectively experiment and learn. Using earth and stones from the surrounding landscape, we write a living manual for the village and its environment. Earth today is a unique material: both ancient and contemporary, innovative and familiar. In some cultures, it symbolizes renewal; elsewhere, it remains deeply connected to daily life. This dynamic tension is the strength of the Arenari — a place for exchange, observation, and rediscovery, where material knowledge, manual work, and technique develop in constant dialogue with lived experience. Through small experiments, conversations, and collective actions, new fluid knowledge emerges. The Arenari links material practice with social ethics and care for the community. It encourages genuine encounters, shared work, and rejects hierarchy and hypocrisy found in art and architecture. The aim is openness, honesty, and fairness. Earth is a shared, meaningful resource. Today, during the SAO festival, Grond Studio will present and read its manifest in the Arenari — inviting everyone to engage with this evolving collective experiment. Arenari means a sandy place or an area characterized by sand in Catalan — a space that evokes both the raw, natural element of sand and the spirit of experiment and exploration. A huge thanks to the entire team at Centre Arte e Natura @farreracan in Farrera for making this project for SAO possible. We are deeply grateful for the wonderful care, healthy and delicious food during our residency. #grondstudio #SAOFarrera #Arenari #livinglaboratory #earthknowledge #manifest #socialethics #communitycare

@brak.brussels X @grond_studio We collect simple European furniture — humble shapes, honest lines — and give them a new skin of earth. With GROND we edit, not erase: bringing back warmth, texture, and soul. Each piece reconnects to what it came from — the ground beneath our feet. 2025

The Catena rammed earth blocks are made within the Open Structures system, which allows building on any scale — from small installations to large architectural forms. A key feature is the mobile hydraulic press used to produce the blocks. Because it can be transported and used directly on-site, it makes it possible to work with the local soil wherever the project takes place. This method reduces transport, strengthens local identity, and creates a direct connection between material and place. The system encourages circular, sustainable building while remaining playful and flexible — inspired by the simple, familiar shapes of children’s building toys that evoke calm, trust, and creativity. The Catena rammed earth blocks are inspired by the playful blocks you often find at a doctor’s office, where children play while they wait. By using that familiar, recognizable shape, they create an atmosphere of calm and security. This doesn’t just help in constructing a physical structure, but also contributes to mental well-being, as people feel more comfortable and safe in such a space. The playful nature of the blocks encourages interaction, collaboration, and creativity, which has a positive effect on the well-being of the users. In this way, building with earth is not only sustainable and circular, but also healing and supportive for the mind. @tempo_gallery @zaventemateliers @stan.huaux 📸
