Spent our 10 year anniversary exploring some historic old Hollywood getaways. This trip reminded us just how lucky we are to live in California, and why we pay that “membership fee.” The drive down South was gorgeous, bursting with green hills, California poppies and a rainbow carpet of wildflowers. We stayed at both @jacumbahotspringshotel and the @thelafayette . Two very different vibes, however, both full of style and art, and plenty of live music. And Jacumba is literally steps from the Mexico / U.S. border wall 🤯 We then wrapped it up in my old stomping grounds at the beach in Carlsbad. Highly recommend this roadtrip for a 2-3 night getaway from LA; especially for purveyors of historic and boutique hotels, great eats and drinks and live music. Happy 10 years, mi amor @brolinger . That was a fun one 😘 Song ID: Liz Cooper @lizcooperdotcom “Better Than Ever” #southerncalifornia #roadtrip #jacumbahotsprings #sandiego #lafayettehotel

The story behind My Chemical Romance’s ferocious track “Vampires Will Never Hurt You” is a wild one: painkillers, punches and a gnarly mouth. Hosted & Produced by: @grimysandra Shot & edited by: @brolinger Source: MCR interview in Kerrang! The symbolism behind the powerline poles and the men climbing up them during Bad Bunny‘s historic Super Bowl performance. For more context, read the full article at GRIMY GOODS. Link in bio. Song ID: “El Apagón” (“The Blackout”) It was symbolic to the pride of the Puerto Rican people, the farmers (jibaros) wearing their pavas (traditional straw hat), risking their lives and climbing up those poles, when the US failed to deliver critical aid and support in a timely manner. It’s a nod to the strength and resilience of the Puerto Rican people. #badbunnysuperbowl #puertorico #wepa #elapagon

My first time seeing The xx was in 2009 at the Fonda. The trio opened for Friendly Fires. Ever since then I’ve been hooked on this incredibly talented group of good humans whose music has the ability to bring you to tears. That’s what happened to me during their Kilby Block Party set. To say I LOVE this band would be an understatement. Each member is so uniquely talented, whether performing as The xx or in their own solo projects. For me, their music defines an indie generation, especially songs like this one “Islands” and of course “Intro” and “Crystalised.” These are the songs that soundtracked some of @grimygoods ’ first show reviews. They will always remind me of some incredibly good times, along with heartbreak and growth. Leaving your 20s and entering your 30s is such a learning leap. As I watched them perform from my dope spot, I couldn’t bare experiencing these special moments without @brolinger . It wasn’t easy leaving my prime placement, nor the woman who joined me in a good cry and became my xx buddy, but I eventually left and went to the most outer layer of The xx’s massive crowd just to be with mi amor. Despite my terrible view, I enjoyed their performance all the more wrapped in my husband’s arms and then breaking free so we could bust a groove soon as their Jamie xx-led dance tracks took over. What a beautiful new memory to add to the festival vault that lives in cranny of my brain. 🖤

This type of ChatGPT reporting, is dangerous. Especially when they start deleting comments to control the narrative. That is not music journalism. It speaks to a larger problem plaguing journalism. Now a days, anyone can pop a prompt into Chat, create videos and distribute them online. They can grown a following despite being scripted by an erroneous ChatGPT. This isn’t the first time I’ve called out a “music influencer” for their false reporting. More often times than not, they don’t care. All they care about are the views and engagement. And many thrive on rage bait. They will delete comments to make themselves look legit and credible. The two times I’ve called BS on these type of creators was directly after an article or video had been published through GRIMY GOODS. When you run a high traffic music blog with 18 years of digital real estate, and are ranked as an authority by Google, the AI bots crawl you relentlessly. It is human-written articles like mine, and that of my writers, that AI unfortunately feeds from. But AI is sloppy and can source information in a sloppy way. Most of these new wave of AI-fueled social media “creators” have no credentials (or street cred). They’re self-proclaimed historians, educators and/or creators. They’re not boots-on-the-ground immersed in these scenes they create video content around. They’re not reporting from their own real-life experience. They’re reporting from the gathered experiences of other people that ChatGPT sources like an average sum whether it happened in real-time or years ago. And this is exactly why this type of AI-scripted “reporting” and wannabe journalism is so flawed. At least have the ethics to fact-check the info AI is feeding you. And have some integrity; because deleting comments that don’t fit your narrative, and blocking professionals, is not a good look. AI can be a great tool, but it should never be a replacement for real, human-researched and thought journalism.

When Mike D 5D rocks South Pasadena. What a night. I’m sure the majority 40+ crowd were grateful for the early 9 PM set time. I know I was. Read the full show review at GRIMY GOODS.

How crashing waves and a gorgeous sunset can recalibrate the soul. This scene was captured at one of my most favorite beachside boutique hotels. Truly a serene gem with mouthwatering cuisine and cocktails. This is the kid of relaxing vacation where you never need (or want) to leave the resort because it has everything you can possibly need, and more. With summer around the corner, consider adding Hotel San Cristobal to your relaxing vacation bucketlist.
