throwback to when i was photographing surfing in encinitas. i remember each of these days. i went to the photo editor of transworld surf every week to ask if he’d publish one of my photos in the magazine (attempting to send my own horribly edited RAW files). after he told me to invest in a flash drive and showed me how to set my wide angle, then hours and hours and hours in the water (and the transworld office) burning through 512mb SD cards he finally did. photography took me many places and threw me into design.

the first-ever digitized image was generated in 1973 from playboy magazine. its called lenna.
taken from playboy magazine 1972 november issue of swedish model lena forsén
usc engineers found it suitable for image processing and used playboy as main source of inspiration
one of the most used images in history and one of the most important events in computer history
forsén said she wanted it to be called ‘lenna’ so the population wouldn’t mispronounce her name as ‘leena’
the first digitized print image for the internet is a playboy magazine image from usc..
forsén herself has said "it’s time i retired from tech."

The Art of Computer Designing by Osamu Sato; 1993
Official Description:
The computer is a magic box. Many graphic images are hidden inside it. This book is a beginner’s introduction to calling forth these images as author Sato shows how to create figures with basic shapes - i.e., lines, arcs, squares and circles - and does so simply, clearly, and above all very logically.
Just looking at the myriad manifestations of form is a joy, but for those who will use it to begin creating their own shapes this book offers far, far greater pleasure.
