We’re so pleased to share that Chris’s fellowship report on accessibility & sustainability of litho in Australia is in the wild. Deepest thanks to the @issinstitute ; @gaf_community ; Brandon, Valpuri, and Diana of @tamarindeducation & @tamarindinstitute ; @takachpress ; @speckhero ; @nycgps ; the spectacular print community members responding to surveys and offering consult; GHP interns and assistants; and the incomparable support of family and friends who made this possible. It’s really only the tip of the iceberg and there’s a long way to go but even this foundational work could not have been instigated without the fellowship program giving it the nudge into motion. We’ll be unpacking the next steps in the near future while exploring collaborations and partnerships to keep up the momentum. Thanks all and happy printing. More thanks while we’re at it… @santafeprintinghouse @printcouncilofaustralia @sunshine_editions @heidelbergfineart @augustcarpenter @australianprintworkshop @cobalteditions @griffith_printmakers_club

We’re launching our survey for regional litho practitioners, in support of Chris’s ISSI/GAF fellowship! While primarily intended for people based in Australia in terms of the grant we are very hopeful to hear from anyone in the surrounding regions, especially to work on cooperative projects and better understand the difficulties for artists and printers outside of the Northern hemisphere supply chain. Please follow the link in our bio or on the fellowship page at the Grey Hand Press website. You may reply anonymously or identify as a practitioner / institution, with options to have anonymised response summaries shared with the @printcouncilofaustralia or @tamarindinstitute . Every field is optional, but as much detail as you can share is deeply appreciated. Thanks all and keep well; of you’re attending @sgcinternational have a great time! #lithography #printmaking #sustainability #fineartprintmaking @issinstitute

We're thrilled to share that Chris has been awarded a George Alexander Fellowship through the International Specialised Skills Institute, pursuing skills enrichment and developing reference resources fine-tuned for Australasian lithography practitioners over the year ahead. The fellowship will be based in a series of intensive training and consultation opportunities primarily in North America and Europe but potentially further afield. The itinerary is still developing and flexible, so if your studio or institution would be interested in hosting a visit we would love to hear from you. Likewise, institutions in the Australasia region interested in partnerships supporting this work or sharing in the resulting workshops and resources are invited to reach out. A page detailing the project will be launched on the Grey Hand website in the days ahead and we encourage you to follow the @issinstitute / @gaf_community programs to see the fascinating work of other fellows! #issinstitute #lithography #printmaking

Have you ever been behind the scenes of an artist’s studio? Today visitors had a special treat, joining artist Chris Hagen for a studio tour at Grey Hand Press which is a Brisbane-based printmaking studio co-founded by Chris Hagen and Claudia Husband. Chris gave a live demonstration of the making processes behind the works currently on view in his exhibition Dissembling Assembly at PARKER Contemporary. From carving and inking to printing and layering, visitors were able to see firsthand how the works come together, gaining a deeper understanding of the labour, experimentation and decision-making that sits behind each finished piece. The tour also offered a rare look inside the working studio at Grey Hand Press, giving guests the chance to experience the tools, materials and environment where the work is created. Seeing the work in the gallery is one thing, but witnessing the process and the artists thinking behind it while in the studio adds an entirely new layer of appreciation. Thank you to Chris Hagen and Grey Hand Press for opening the studio doors and sharing this generous insight into his practice. @greyhandpress Chris Hagen: Dissembling Assembly is on view at PARKER Contemporary until 28 March.

EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT - Chris Hagen: Dissembling Assembly Opening Night Friday 13 March | 6–8pm In this exhibition, Hagen reflects on how we come to understand the world, and how knowledge is shaped as much by experience as it is by information. The works sit in the space between knowing and not knowing, where meaning is built slowly, layered over time, and never quite fixed. Raised in northern Wisconsin by a biologist and a journalist, Hagen grew up between two ways of making sense of things observation and storytelling. That tension continues to shape his practice, where structure and uncertainty coexist, allowing order to emerge while still leaving space for doubt, intuition and change. Across the series, what is visible is only part of the story. Some elements announce themselves clearly, while others sit quietly beneath the surface, asking for time and attention. Chris Hagen received a BFA from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Becoming deeply involved in printmaking during during that time, he took a journeyman’s path through Minneapolis with a year of co-op practice and a session of professional internship at the Highpoint Center for Printmaking. During his MFA at Illinois State University, he attended the Tamarind Institute summer lithography workshop and served as an assistant in Normal Editions Workshop. Here in Australia, Chris co-founded Grey Hand Press with fellow artist and paper conservator Claudia Husband. This is Chris Hagen's first solo exhibition with PARKER Contemporary and he has exhibited his work nationally and internationally with the gallery. FINALIST ANNOUNCEMENT - Congratulations to Chris Hagen, finalist in the 2026 Muswellbrook Art Prize. @muswellbrookartscentre Dissembling Assembly – Entrainment, 2025 Monoprint relief etching and blind embossment 27.5 × 25 cm Since 1958, the Muswellbrook Art Prize has built one of Australia’s most respected regional art collections, with past winners including David Aspden, Sydney Ball, and Fred Williams. This work forms part of a series exploring the tensions between knowledge and understanding, data and interpretation — what is said and what is done. By combining relief etching and blind embossment from the same plate, Hagen produces both a subtle tonal surface and a visually “silent” yet intensely topographic layer revealed through touch as much as sight. The result is a dynamic tension between the optical and the haptic. Chris Hagen will present a solo exhibition at PARKER Contemporary in 2026.

Have you seen the large honeycomb artwork currently installed at 300 Queen Street? The installation, titled Novel Havens (Queen Street), was created by Chris Hagen of Grey Hand Press to enliven the foyer and window spaces of the building. Comprised of handcrafted, layered printed panels, the work takes its cue from the honey bee hives perched atop 300 Queen Street. These urban hives offer vital shelter for bee colonies while sustaining the diverse flora of Brisbane’s cityscape. Part of Hagen’s ongoing practice, Novel Havens (Queen Street) reflects on the beauty and fragility of bees and their indispensable role in our world. Drawing from his own experience working on beekeeping farms (apiaries), Hagen celebrates the resilience of pollinators, while acknowledging the delicate balance they navigate in an increasingly urban environment. 📍 300 Queen St, Brisbane City 📅 8 Sep - end Oct @greyhandpress @cbre Photos by Louis Lim.

NOW SHOWING - Daniel Clifford: Wherever they put you and wherever I'll be In 'Wherever they put you and wherever I’ll be', Clifford brings together works created from exploded bronze castings and monotypes on paper, printed with the support and assistance of Chris Hagen at Grey Hand Press. The compromised sheaves shaped by force, collapse and chance serve as tools of indexical mark-making, capturing moments of not only destruction but transformation. In his work, rupture becomes a catalyst for redirection, leading to new paths and understandings that have emerged from these collisions. @mrdclifford @greyhandpress Open Wednesday - Saturday until August 16 Saturday August 9: 11am - 4pm Wednesday August 13 (Ekka): 12pm - 5pm Thursday August 14: 11am - 4pm Friday August 15: 12pm - 5pm Saturday August 16: 11am - 4pm or by appointment 38 Hope Street STH BNE @explorefishlane

EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT - What if the rupture was just the beginning? PARKER Contemporary presents, Daniel Clifford: Wherever they put you and wherever I'll be. Join the artist Daniel Clifford at the gallery to celebrate the opening of this exhibition on Friday August 8 6pm - 8pm RSVP /daniel-clifford-wherever-they-put-you-and-wherever-i-ll-be @mrdclifford Grounded in the premise that no event occurs in isolation, Clifford’s practice examines the unpredictable intersections of events that shape both objects and lives. These intersections, whether positive, negative and/or entirely ambivalent, imprint upon, around and within us and are essential to personal and collective narratives. Clifford embraces the tragicomic and imperfect, urging viewers to reflect on the complexities surrounding us, the tensions we experience and the ever-shifting forces that shape who we are. In these works, rupture is not an end, it is a catalyst, a point of redirection — a new path spiralling out from collision. Daniel Clifford, originally from New Zealand, currently serves as the Artistic Associate for Visual Arts at Metro Arts @metroarts and Creative Lead at iAM Projects @iam_projects He is the former Principal of Art + Design at UAP and holds a distinguished professional standing within the art community.
