Contemporary Printmaking on the edge, Pat Hoffie’s “I have loved, I love, I will love” exploits monotypes, drypoints and large format digital prints to critically address the desensitising nature of images that have exceeded a saturation point in contemporary media, particularly in regard to the disasters of war, this exhibition at QAGOMA is a must see for anyone making prints as part of their creative practice

Last night Cobalt Editions artist in residence @pathoffie_ sat down with Chris Saines CNZM @qagoma for ‘Portrait of an artist’ @statelibraryqld ‘Portrait of an artist is a series of events that brings to life the James C Sourris AM collection of artist interviews, where esteemed Queensland artists and their practice are captured in the State Library’s collections. This event featured a screening of Pat Hoffie’s interview from the collection, followed by a lively conversation and Q&A session.’ We look forward to Hoffie’s upcoming exhibition at QAGOMA ‘I have loved/I love/I will love’ opening next month in the Queensland Art Gallery that will present Pat Hoffie’s first extensive body of work in printmaking. NEW EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT | Enduring Proof: 30 Years of Contemporary Printmaking in Focus - March 21 to April 5. Opening Event Saturday March 29, 3pm to 5pm. Visit the gallery Wednesday to Saturday | 38 Hope St, South Brisbane or by appointment. Printmaking is often thought of as a process of multiplication, yet within each edition lies something singular—a mark of artistic exploration, a moment of innovation, a lasting impression. Enduring Proof brings together a selection of prints created over the past 30 years, revisiting the ways artists have engaged with the medium as a space for experimentation, refinement, and risk-taking. Drawn from the QCAD folio box archive held by the printmaking studio at the Queensland College of Art and Design, this collection highlights a diverse range of contemporary artists who have worked in print in Brisbane at pivotal moments in their careers—some at the very beginning, others in established phases of their practice. Many of these artists have since become highly regarded figures in contemporary art, making these prints more than just artefacts of the past; they are testaments to artistic evolution, to ideas that took shape through ink and pressure, and to the enduring relevance of print as a contemporary art form. As these works resurface in a new curatorial light, Enduring Proof reframes printmaking as a medium of both permanence and reinvention. These prints are not static—they carry the energy of their making, the proof of an artist’s hand, and the foresight of ideas that have continued to resonate. This exhibition celebrates print not only as a record of the past but as an active force in shaping the present and the future of contemporary art. This exhibition is supported and sponsored by 2024 Turnbull Fellow, Emily Parker of PARKER Contemporary and courtesy of Cobalt Editions @cobalteditions Consider supporting the future of The Turnbull Award in recognising exemplary print practice at Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University. @qcadprint 1. announcing the first cobalt x SLQ 2024 undercurrent conversation // strange books // Join Dr Tim Mosely and Annique Goldenberg in a conversation looking at strange artists books held in the State Library of Queensland’s collections. A striking aspect of hand bound books is that their forms have been developed and refined over centuries by hands for hands. This speaks to the critical relationship between a studio practice and the publics reception of a work of art. In this this cobalt undercurrent conversation you will be introduced to books that break with this premise. The artists who have made these books forgo the refined binding developed over centuries, employing at times radically different binding techniques to extend the conceptual integrity of the work of art realised through the book. @statelibraryqld Registration link in bio .au/e/strange-books-slq-x-cobalt-tickets-940740288527
