Scenes from the joint Pratt SoA 400 studio, Augmented Fabrications, with @jcvb_split . The studio explores design, research and conceptual development around Mixed-Reality, it multi-midal and multi-material technologies and experiences, and it's contemporary and near future contributions to architecture's disciplinary and trans-disciplinary thinking about corporeality and ethereality or physicality and virtuality. At this stage, students have created 2 investigive physical models driven by fabrication techniques and "Active Agents" they have proposed. These design iterations are cataloged through exploded assembly, kit of parts, and field research booklets. I am excited to be teaming up with @jcvb_split for the research Cephalic Structures: Robotically Printed Eco-Composites for the @prattinstitute Research Open House The research explores the robotically printed fabrication processes for ecological micro-infrastructures. The series we are showing for the Research Open House explores combinations of eco-materials such as recycled wood pulp, oyster shell flour, and charcoal with a bio-polymer to form lightweight bio-structures with ecological potentials. The structures are designed to have minimally invasive footprints that transform continuously into bulbous vessels that will eventually hold water, soil, vegetation and roosts. Robotic 3D Material Studies // 3D printing creates excess - for this series of explorations we are looking at various means of recycled materials for Robotic Extrusion. No. 1: Recycled Wood + PLA | This study explores collecting wood planar scraps, pulsed/crushed/blended to make a fine granular additive. These examples are 20% wood additive to PLA. Finally had a chance to have some robo 3D fun - with a lot of large prints coming our way, it was time for a pellet Hopper redesign. The design takes advantage of a Grasshoppers ability to tween curves along a given path. Next was the Robot's ability to print multi directional to create structurally sound Hopper for 2+ kilograms of material.
