A wonderfully crowded celebration happened last night at the new MPA Berlage Arts & Education Center. “Yasmine C Iskander: Life Through the Power of Color” is a celebration of courage and the power of creating art as a way of living through life’s challenges. It was great to see so many people enjoy this amazing exhibit along with her parents and friends. David Carlson’s “Subtle Connection” is around the corner at the Sally and John Simms gallery - both should be seen ASAP. @mp4a #reselience #abstractart #healingart #power

There aren’t many artists I’ve worked with in the DMV who paint Bison and Steer Cattle. Kathy Winkler developed a love for these large animals as a child growing up in Texas, and I’ve had the great pleasure of documenting her work over the past 20 years, while getting to know her wonderful family and friends. “I have felt a connection with all animals throughout my life.. my objective in painting is to enable the viewer to feel the animals emotion.” Before making art full time, Kathy was a program engineering manager for US Naval combat warfare systems. @kathy09021942 #virginiaartists #southwestart #animalart #representationalart

“If That Makes Sense” is the current MFA candidate’s exhibit at the Katzen. Musician/artist Rob Balsewich’s installation is called MID-E, where he “constructs custom instruments from reclaimed second hand and locally sourced materials. Viewers of this installation become participants as they use provided artist-made drumsticks to experiment musically, transcending the artworks meaning from the objects themselves to the collective experiment they facilitate.” Other artists include: Sarah Bell Wilson, Michael Dodson, Julia Fouser, Kelvin He Hao Low, Ryan Kennedy, Lexi Moser, Austin Remetta and Brent Spencer. Along with “Out of Green Mansions” featuring the woodblock prints by Sandy Walker. Up until mid May. @auartsdc @aumuseum_katzen #recycledart #printmakingart #homemadeinstruments #studentartists

A great time yesterday afternoon at Nancy Sausser’s opening at Freight Gallery. Nancy writes: “I am drawn to containers and vessels, as they encapsulate, protect, preserve and metaphorically point to the coexistence of the universal and the individual..” @freightgallerydc @nancysausser #popups #ceramicart #dcartists #visualmetaphor

We really enjoyed our time in one of our favorite venues .. Baltimore’s American Visionary Art Museum. From Esther Krinitz’s 36 hand embroidered pieces commemorating the Holocaust to Stephanie Lucas’ “Tomorrow the Dogs “ to David R Klein’s pez dispenser collection, there is something for probably everyone.. John Waters describes the gift shop as “the best museum gift shop you’ve ever been to in your life.” @avam.museum #outsiderart #remoteviewing #baltimoremuseums #visionaryart

Another provocative exhibit offered by the Smith Center for Healing and the Arts.. “The Struggle Continues” features work from Tim Davis’ Power Room series. “Using repurposed drawers and cabinets, he constructs symbolic containers holding the layered truths of housing inequality, discrimination, racism, mass incarceration, migration and other defining issues shaping America.” When perceived within the glare of current times it packs an additional punch. Up until June 5th. @smithcenterdc #humanrights #healingartist #mixedmedia #truthtelling

Happy belated birthday to Johnny Winter. Why he’s not in the rock and roll hall of fame is beyond me and many others considering his phenomenal career and talent plus overall influence. I was lucky enough to finally see him play at the State Theatre in 2003.. produced and accompanied Muddy Waters on many albums. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 #texasmusicians #slideguitar #bluesrock
