It took me six days to absorb the supernatural feelings I experienced in eSwatini last Sunday. We took a leisurely #carlbenz drive to honor an invitation that first came to me 15 years ago, and when our host @swaziboyentertainment said it was worth the wait, I was overcome with gratitude. A couple of weeks ago, Brendz and I had the privilege of spending time with the extended Beck family and the amazing juice they produce. Highlights from our Robertson stop for the bubbly and Constantia for the Sauvignon Blancs, Semillon, and the stunning blends—including the one-of-a-kind Katarina, named after Steenburg’s founder—were many, and the company we joined on this voyage was incredibly fun.
We watched, in awe, how Graham Beck bubbly is produced. The sheer amount of minds, hands, and machines behind this local favorite made me rethink what I’m paying for it.
Steenburg didn’t disappoint either—the Estate, quarters, cuisine, and, of course, the wines. The winemaking process is impressive, but it’s the people who bring it to life. We met Vlok Hannekom, the farm’s viticulturist; his green fingers are golden. From his care of the vines to winemaker Eluda Basson’s deft touch in the cellar, the wines shine. Add head chef Kerry Kilpin to the mix, and you have an astonishing experience. The best part is that these experiences are open to anyone who loves and respects the land. 2005 was the first year where I been invited by Dj Christos to come in Johannesburg for the first South African Music Conference.. my role was to listen demos in a huge arena full of 2500 music lovers.. to give some feedback to futur producers and singers .. those people came from all over South Afrika dying for the music passion !
