An adaptation of Robert Macfarlane’s best-selling book, the feature doc journeys into depths of the earth rarely captured by cameras. Directed by Rob Petit, produced by @darrenaronofsky , narrated by Sandra Müller (“Anatomy of a Fall”), and beautifully lensed by @rwdfilm , the mind trip of a doc serves as a love letter to deep time ✨

𝙸𝚗𝚍𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚒𝚊 | 𝙰𝚞𝚐𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟺
Over the summer, I spent a month in Indonesia on a solo surf trip, after a heavy year of remarkable ups and devastating downs — eat/pray/love style 🙃
I explored a chain of remote islands in the South Timor Sea that I’ve always wanted to visit. It was no easy vacation. I spent countless exhausting hours on planes, boats, freighters, mopeds, and stuck in random fishing villages along the way. But I also got to surf the most impossibly perfect waves, breaking on reefs off of uninhabited islands, sometimes with no one else in the water except for the small crew of friends I made along the way.
Perhaps my favorite activity, however, was just being…still. Alone with my thoughts. In conversation with my demons. It’s been a while. Such a glorious reset for my nervous system, and one that I’m still processing and learning from.
I added a week at the end in Bali, where I met a magical creature/artist (@ferafaith_ ), who showed me the best sides of Bali, and took me on the most unexpected adventures, not to mention the wildest parties :)

Feeling the glow from a banner year ✨
2023 saw the completion of our new @sandboxfilms headquarters, a multiyear build out that features an ATMOS cinema, a sound stage, edit suites, a salon and bar, and many more fun surprises. All on the gutted 10th floor of a landmarked 1920s neo-gothic skyscraper in Manhattan’s Flatiron District.
My mind is blown.
Last month, we got to christen it with a fun lil launch party attended by many of our friends and fam, including Werner Herzog, Effie Brown, Darren Aronofsky, Barbara Kopple, David Byrne, Maya Hawke, Tabitha Jackson, Ondi Timoner, David France and many other past + future collaborators.
Endless thanks to superstar boutique designers @civilianprojects for their creative visions. To the @simonsfoundation for its forever generous support of our operation. To Tom Paul and Mark Gallay for spec’ing and building out the theater and post facilities. And to my whole Sandbox fam for everything. Here’s to even bigger moves and ever more boundary-pushing projects in 2024. So happy to have you all along for the ride 🤍

Thank you for being such an inspiration over the years, and such a profoundly generous collaborator and mentor. You gave me the courage to ignore conventional wisdom and start all of this, what eventually became @sandboxfilms . We wouldn’t be here without you.

I didn't take nearly enough photos (and these don't do the sheer spectacle of it all justice), because I was too busy being immersed in all the merriment, fairycore cosplay, mischief, and joy of the moment -- but dang, what a magical weekend! Like a renn faire on acid. 10 out of 10!

What a magically surreal weekend. Making this film and bringing it the world has been the privilege of my career. And making these friends along the way has been a highlight of my life. Words can’t describe what this milestone has meant.
