You heard the news: āAustralia Ratifies the Global Ocean Treatyā. But didnāt we celebrate the Global Ocean Treaty back in January? š
We did⦠itās confusing⦠but let us explain š
Right now Greenpeace Australia Pacific activists are disrupting a major gas conference in Sydney, where fossil fuel executives, lobbyists, government representatives and investors are gathering to plan the expansion of their industry.
The message is simple - while gas executives are profiting from the illegal war and causing climate change, Australians are paying the price.
This is unacceptable.
Big Gas is counting on people not paying attention. Together, letās prove them wrong.
Share this far and wide to show just how much support there is to properly tax gas corporations and accelerate the transition to homegrown renewable energy.
When we act together, we have the power to challenge this system and demand better.

Right now Greenpeace Australia Pacific activists are blocking a coal export ship from entering the worldās largest coal port, as thousands rally at @risingtide.aus Peopleās Blockade.
The message to the Australian government is simple ā set a timeline to phase out coal and gas!

The crew on a @greenpeaceships vessel have documented a single fishing boat capturing 32 sharks over 11 hours. Thatās an average of 3 sharks per hour and this is the horror of what industrial fishing can look like.
At home, in Australia we have the largest marine parks network in the world, covering 52% of our waters. However, in more than half of these areas destructive fishing industries like bottom trawling and long lining are allowed to continue.
This June we will have a once-in-a-decade chance to change that.
Help get industrial fishing out of Australiaās marine parks. š

Big Tech is pushing for Australia to become a global AI and data centre hub, but who actually pays the price for that expansion?ā£
ā£
Behind every AI trend, image generator and chatbot is a growing network of enormous data centres that demand huge amounts of electricity and water, and Big Gas is already using this boom to push for more dirty gas expansion.ā£
ā£
We can't allow billionaires and corporations to continue pushing for more projects that will only benefit them, with Aussie communities and our environment left to pay the price.ā£

The Oceania has set sail. šā£

We are heading up the east coast of Australia to investigate what's really happening inside our marine parks.ā£
ā£
š¢ Stay tuned for more to come.
Behind every Greenpeace action, there are people who decided they couldnāt look away. People with jobs, families, fears, hopes, and the courage to stand up to powerful polluting industries driving the climate crisis.ā£
ā£
Our activists are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. From painting banners and meeting with MP's, to shutting down gas conferences and scaling ships, they take brave action to fight for a better world.ā£
ā£
Recently, that meant showing up to a major gas conference in Sydney, knowing that Big Gas executives from companies like Woodside and Santos have billions of dollars behind them, but the power of the people is stronger.ā£
ā£
So we step in. We disrupt. We make the problem visible and the Big Gas executives uncomfortable, holding them accountable for their own selfish agenda. This is what climate activism looks like.ā£

This Earth needs a voice. It needs change. It needs you. Join the movement and become a Greenpeace volunteer!ā£

Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough. šš
For generations, you have ignited a love of nature while showing us all whatās at stake if we fail to protect it. Through every forest, ocean and wildlife interaction youāve brought into our homes, youāve inspired millions to care more deeply for the planet we all share.
Thank you for turning wonder into action, and storytelling into a force for change.
Hereās to a century of curiosity, courage, and passionate advocacy for the natural world. š±

Australia has the largest network of marine parks in the world, but not all of them are fully protected. In fact, more than half still permit destructive fishing industries to operate within their boundaries. š
Thereās growing momentum for stronger ocean protection, especially following Australia joining the Global Ocean Treaty. Thatās why weāre heading out on Oceania to document whatās happening at sea and help push for stronger marine sanctuaries that genuinely protect ocean wildlife and ecosystems. āµ
