maria's sound art involves physical material, chance and coincidence. in an analogous process, i took these photos on 35mm film that was color tinted in unexpected ways. after they were developed i sandwiched them using cross dissolve lightening and darkening. luckily, the portrait of maria was at a point on the film roll where it developed with a purple tint, which was perfect for that moment

this show was incredible! the musicianship and lyricism runs deep in this city. the nrg inspires me. it got me thinking about how real connections to ppl can persist across swaths of time and space, even with gaps in between. i met sankon over ten years ago in cincinnati before he moved to LA, hanging out with friends, sharing songs and music videos, watching basketball and football etc. dabbling in music production

the story goes... the rückert-lieder song titled "liebst du um schönheit" was mahler's only true love song. it was never meant to be published or performed publicly.
he composed it as a gift for his wife alma who was a soprano, and hid it in another score she'd been singing from. he waited and waited, but she never went for the book so he had to open it himself.
alma recalled "suddenly he said 'today i would like to take a look at [the score] die walküre.' he opened up the book and the song fell out. i was delighted beyond measure and we played the song at least twenty times that day."
