Perennially bad at sharing work - Washington’s Olympic Peninsula treesitter last year for @washingtonpost . The anonymous treesitter (some wonder if it was truly only one person in the tree) known as Fable, was protesting the sale of forest land on the Elwha River watershed, an instrumental and deeply historical zone near Port Angeles and site of an enormous dam removal and restoration project. Fable sat 80’ up in the canopy of a Grand Fir tree for 40 days, before an anonymous counter protestor ripped out their counterweight with a truck. The first photo was recognized this year by @american_photography_winners

My 83-year-old friend Joe Reno came over for a burger last night. He ate it too fast for me to get a picture of it. Joe has lived in Ballard for 77 years in the same house. He’s the most prolific artist I’ve ever met. He made 3 paintings in the 90 minutes he was here, and brought home driftwood to carve. He’s one of Jericka’s sister’s best friends and favorite people. He says we’re gonna be rich from all the art he’s given us over the years. He might be right. He had a dream he was in a spaceship with extraterrestrials the night before we took this. Al Pacino is his cousin, he’s been at a wedding with The Beatles, and Frances Farmer lived in his mom’s house.

Dene Grigar, Director of Creative Media & Digital Culture at Washington State and her Electronic Literature Lab. Grigar and her team work to archive the culture, tools, and art from the early days of born-digital media. I had so much fun going down memory lane with her. There was so much obscure artwork and music and design in that era that would be forever lost without her preservation. I even got to play Myst on old hardware. I swear this room even *smelled* like old computers churning away. Photographed for BBC.

The group met with Dallas Goldtooth, Baratunde Thurston, Amy Cordalis and CSSP Producer Santana Rabang for a sneak peak behind the scenes followed by a day in Seattle and the evening show! #NetseMot #OneHeartOneMind 📸 @granthindsley

BEHIND THE ALBUM COVER📸🪾💌 From the very beginning of making Nested in Tangles I saw red. I felt myself wrapped in knotted tangled limbs reaching toward the blue sky, toward the birds in murmuration. Back in April I began seeking the perfect tree to bring this vision to life, and got @granthindsley on board again for the expedition, also wanting to create a cohesive visual companion to the rich cover of Keeper of the Shepherd that he captured. I was set on old-growth oaks and coastal cypresses, and I flew out to @gbrllgrnbrg in Sonoma County California where I studied herbal medicine back in the day. Bodega Bay is a magical place, and we went to the cypress grove that feels like an ancient portal at the edge of the earth. It was an unforgettable and potent experience—in conversation with the land, the unwavering strength of roots, and the canopy of evergreen that takes shape with and against the wind. THANK YOU Grant and Gabrielle for our adventure and capturing earth magic!
