This lovely Kowa is headed out to the KRAKEN!!! for Friday, and as a (temporarily!! benched) hockey player myself I was a tad giddy to dial it in for them. Some deep cleaning, regreasing and tuning has it ready for whatever it needs to take on! It’s not an easy lens to service, I won’t lie. But we love a challenge here at the shop and won’t let that stop us from making things work. Let’s gooooooo @seattlekraken !!

This is me totally not thinking about lenses on my vacation and also distracting myself from a slightly hard day because who doesn’t have those, and who wouldn’t perseverate on the elegant complexity of a vintage device designed to make images from spontaneous light and particles that exist long after we’re gone and tell a story that might mean something real to another spontaneous bundle of light and particles…😅

Also rando - my sister just told me they call a freezing fog a pogonip (pronounced pah ge nip!) and not hoarfrost. Have you ever heard this word before, and where the hell have I been??! Actually now that I’m typing maybe the pogonip leaves the hoarfrost? Or are they colloquially different terms for the same thing. I need internet help!!

I finally checked my mail!! My friend @doshworld makes these amazing works in glass and since I look thru glass all day I needed one. It makes me think of the lake we grew up by and all the rivers I fished on, and how necessary and precious water is to our existence 🌊
The pocket charms are rescued scrap? Cuttings from his larger pieces that use a crazy ancient technique called cut-n-flip. I love them, they remind me of how cool a used paint palette covered in the colorful layers of what was used to make the painting is. It’s like if you stare hard enough you can see the work and hours and final piece even in that remnant!
