I wanted to pair a warm glow (blasting bass) with a sketchy DIY look, reflecting the humble-high-tech approach that is the nature of this project + space, building a custom rig for @13garrettstreet ♡
Dream Fossils - an exploration of memory and relic through movement, textiles, and shapeshifting personal mythologies. At the Performance Arcade from Feb 25th - Mar 1st ⭐️ there will be multiple iterations shown throughout the week, come in and out as you please.

PA2026 Bodybox | Dream Fossils
@solveig.mov@graceblla@indii_0_o@syd.magnus Dream Fossils is a performance installation that explores the slippery, shapeshifting relationship between relics (both emotional and material) and the living.
The unstable skeleton of a secondhand memory is constructed and then dismantled, the domestic and the artistic blur together, and personal mythos is contextualized within lineages of dreaming. Knitted webs form the basis of the textile works, and are cast in a constellation of contexts - as connective tissue, trappings, or quotidian items, as their meaning shape-shifts throughout the performance installation.
The performer slips in and out of various selves through the choreography. Enacting the uncanny and multi-textured ways emotion haunts the body, the artist attempts in turns to alchemize, absorb, accept, and excise it.
This work has developed its textile ideas in response to the choreographers maternal lineage of craftswomen, a deeply fragmented and surreal window into rural life, and the uncertain border dividing the domestic and artistic.

Some materials & tests from the 'Magpies at the Diner' development season in early 2025.
Magpies is a contemporary dance show produced by @solveig.mov . I had the pleasure of lighting the first performance last year, & was invited back to expand the uncanny, saccharine world using live projections, shadow manipulation & animation.
This work is filled with endearing, almost commedia dell'arte beings, who are as comical as they are pitiful. I understand the Magpies dancers not as individual 'characters' but different iterations of an unstable, performed self, desperate to be loved.
Ngā mihi nui Miriam for having me on board. It's such an honor to be trusted with your rich vision, and I love working alongside such driven & intelligent dancers. Can't wait to see where we take this next!

Attic Sessions is a new event series that aims to uncover and celebrate audiovisual experimentation in Pōneke.
Each evening offers a unique and intimate, sit-down experience. Lighting, projections, and optical manifestations of a selected visual artist will accompany two performances from musicians working across electro-acoustic, noise, and other experimental sound practices.
Projection playground!! Mon 16th!! 8-late at the lovely 'Whatever Palace'. Come for some laid-back tech noodling + coexistence + video art.
This is an opportunity to explore forms beyond gallery, gig, or flat substrate. No matter your experience level, you are invited along, bring your gear or install idea.
The aim is to share knowledge & make space to explore new techniques that we might not otherwise have time for. Also simply to read books & hang out within an interesting light environment!
