First blue belt tournament at the Arnold today. Took home 🥈 in BJJ but 🥇 in highest heart rate (I had a suspected SVT episode and had to forfeit the championship match 💔). Had a ton of fun though, looking forward to the next one!
8/22/24: Diving in a Baltic Sea open-enclosure with Harbor Seals (Marine Science Center, Rostock, DE). The animals are partcipating in social/group training while myself and two other divers watch from under the surface. 🦭
This summer I’ve been conducting an internship through the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service at the Marine Science Center (@robbenforschungszentrum ) in Rostock, Germany! As an intern for the Sensory and Cognitive ecology group (a lab affiliated with the University of Rostock), I work under the advisory of a Ph.D. Student and aid her in experiments regarding hydrodynamic perception in otariids (eared seals and sea lions). 🦭
I have had the pleasure to get to know dozens of wonderful people (and animals) in the past month that have made this experience so incredible. I cannot stress enough the blessing that it is to work with such passionate and encouraging scholars.
I have also had the opportunity to present my research formally and informally. Pictured includes a talk about my work with @witmerlab presented to the MSC, and another presentation about this summer’s project delivered at the DAAD RISE Scholarship conference at the University of Heidelberg. In addition to public speaking, I am learning many professional skills that will benefit me in my future career. 🌊
