Meet Ellen — one of the most dedicated early childhood development teachers in Southern Africa.
Ellen teaches 37 children aged 4 and 5 at Seke 7 Primary School in Chitungwiza, one of Zimbabwe's largest urban settlements. Using play-based, learner-centred approaches, she creates a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels seen, supported, and ready to learn — including those with special needs.
Teachers like Ellen are the foundation of quality education. By fostering holistic development and building the skills that underpin all future learning, they set children on a path to lasting success.
To make sure more teachers can do what Ellen does, @gpforeducation and @unicefzimbabwe work hand in hand with the Government of Zimbabwe.
Since 2014, UNICEF has helped implement over US$90 million in GPE grants — funding teacher training, developing inclusive teaching practices, and producing the learning materials that make a real difference in classrooms across the country.

This week, @unicef was pleased to welcome Marco Mantovanelli, @gpforeducation 's Regional Manager and his team to Pakistan. During his visit to Lahore, the delegation met children across non-formal, early childhood and special education schools. Strong partnership is creating real impact on the learning and lives of children through more inclusive and child-friendly learning environments, improved access for out-of-school girls and specialized support for children with disabilities. The visit also marked the launch of the upgraded Data Centre and the first fully solarized School Education Department building under the TALEEM Programme which will support uninterrupted learning.
Education is one of the most powerful investments Pakistan can make.
With support from partners like GPE, UNICEF is helping ensure every child in Pakistan can learn and shine.
The conflict in Syria cut off access to education for millions of children.
But since 2020, support from @gpforeducation , @unicef.insyria and Save the Children has enabled thousands to learn in safe environments.
Non-formal education pathways have brought close to 240,500 children back into classrooms, helping them catch up on lost learning and develop skills to transition to formal education.

Education belongs at the center of national development.
Last week, GPE High-Level Envoy Serigne Mbaye Thiam travelled to Kinshasa to meet with Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka and senior government ministers, and to speak at the High-Level Policy Segment on Education Financing, a landmark convening bringing together the DRC government, development partners, and the private sector around a shared commitment to transforming the country's education system.
With over 21 million children in primary school — and millions more to come — investing in education is a priority for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Sustainable financing is key. Building an education system that can grow and endure means progressively strengthening domestic financing, improving how every dollar is spent, and reducing dependence on external aid to #FundEducation.

Spain increases its pledge to GPE’s #MultiplyPossibility campaign 👏
Amid rising global instability, Spain is doubling down on education: The pledge marks a 25% increase from Spain’s last contribution to GPE, a clear signal that education is not a peripheral investment, but vital to global stability and peace.
Pedro Sánchez, Spain’s Prime Minister, emphasized that Spain stands in solidarity with the rest of the world — so his government is boosting its commitment to GPE because peace is built through prevention, and prevention starts with education.
Spain is now the second EU country, after Germany, to back #MultiplyPossibility — reinforcing Team Europe’s role as GPE’s largest donor and its collective commitment to reaching the children most at risk of being left behind.
