The brain child of @samuelgardner , the Slab wall, was an idea Sam had for 4 years. The execution finally happened at the second GP81 Comp at their new location.
Cliff ordered the wood, Sam went to the YTC at 5am to get the delivery. Julian and Sam measured, cut, hauled and build this wall not just once but THREE times over the course of a month.
Thanks to all the folks who helped to move each piece to build and take it apart, and who knew about it but kept it a secret. Many of the pieces were hiding in plain sight - some behind the Tension board, some in the setters closet, but no one noticed!
It was a fun secret to keep and an exciting one to reveal.

I’ve been climbing at GP81 since 2018. It’s a special place founded and staffed by good people, and supported through thick and thin by a community of enthusiastic, badass, and heartfelt climbers.
As a small business in big city, this place does not get the attention it deserves. GP is a gym founded on hard work, determination, and clarity of belief. Cliff and Julian have earned the trust and love of the climbing community in NYC, and in turn that community has protected this space in tumultuous times
In 2022, I began filming the build out of GP’s new home in Bushwick. At the time I had no plan for that footage other than an edit of the build out itself. That idea expanded to include some comp footage, until I decided what we really needed was a brief but complete history of GP81.
So that’s what I made.
