Weāre also unbelievably crushed to announce our beloved chef @zoeunverferth is frying her last lechon on Monday. Sheās been with us since day one of the residency, six months of bringing so much light and joy into the kitchen. She is irreplaceable and will be sorely missed in friendship and on the line. Wishing her all the luck in Santa Fe! š«¶

As a mestizo, Iāve struggled with imposter syndrome for a long time. People always ask if Iām āreally Filipinoā or give me weird looks because I cook Filipino food. I feel like I constantly have to explain myself, my family, and where we come from.
Sometimes I wonder if mixed race people of color are understood when it comes to identity. Thereās this feeling that you have to prove yourself over and over again. And in food, it can feel even heavier, like if your food isnāt good enough, youāll be judged even harder by your own community.
But I wouldnāt change who I am for the world.
Iām beyond grateful to have been raised by strong Filipino women who shaped me, fed me, taught me love through food, and made me proud of where I come from. Everything I cook carries pieces of them with me every single day ā¤ļø

The first person we ever brought into @gotyourbacklb carried the spirit of GYB so naturally; listening, caring, and moving with intention.
It meant everything to grow alongside her in vulnerability and strength.
We say it all the time, cooking doesnāt have to be so serious! Weāre just here for a good time in this small, beautiful life. And the people who walk through our doors take a piece of that with them. She helped build that feeling. @zoeunverferth moved before we even had to ask, bringing light into every service.
Weāll miss her like crazy, but weāre so happy for her next chapter ā¤ļø
