Been a bit quiet on the @goodthings_cdf front of late. Life has been...life. So I'm happy to announce that I'll be doing a solo good things set on Thursday 28th August in support of @ysgol_de_caerdydd .  Fel dysgwr, a thad o blant sy yn ysgolion Gymraeg, dwi'n credu bod addysg yn yr iaith yn bwysig iawn. Dylai mwy o gyfleoedd i rieni i anfon eu plant i ysgolion Gymraeg, ble bynnag eu bod nhw'n byw yn y ddinas. Dwi wrth fy modd i wneud rhywbeth i gefnogi'r ymgyrch. Apart from open mic nights as a whippersnapper I believe this is the first time I have done a solo gig. Hopefully I don't mess it up. much love again to @adamthomaswalton for playing pencil poised on his @bbcintroducing @bbcsounds radio wales show last saturday.

Here we go then, @goodthings_cdf single number three. I know it's a cliché and the sort of thing that people don't believe actually happens, but the chorus of pencil poised just popped into my head one day while I was sitting on the sofa. Honestly. I ran upstairs and jammed it out on my guitar, recorded a wee demo on my phone and then there it was. I remember working it out in a band practice we had as a three-piece when Oli was off on tour with someone and that is basically the arrangement on the recording. The most low maintenance song we have done. But me being me, the lyrics took a while to write because I am a terrible procrastinator. And guess what? The lyrics are about procrastination. Basically two verses and a chorus of self-flagellation for not finishing things, not really understanding why I don't finish things, and beating myself up for it. A bit meta. But, happily, I did finish it. I remember writing the final lyrics on a strike day in spring 2023. Read into that what you will. A good thing (pun totally not intended) about doing this band is that it has helped me to finish things. Or at least become friends with 'good enough' which everyone should definitely do more of. I definitely haven't let go of perfectionism yet but I'm getting there.

One last show to add for February! Hamartia have become firm favourites of ours for their emotive brand of alt rock that leans heavily on themes of melancholy, nostalgia and resilience. We welcome them back to Cardiff on Feb 12th for their first headline show in the city at Tiny Rebel. Stoked to have an amazing line up of South Wales’ best in alt rock and emo, courtesy of Failstate, Good Things and Falselove Gonna be a blast, tickets in the bio!
