We played with Chillerton a bunch over the years. Mostly during our first tour with @failuresunion . Their bass player/vocalist Bailey passed away recently. He was a genuinely amazing person, we were so lucky to have had the time we had with him and he will be greatly missed. Fuck cancer. Bailey forever.

I hate it when songwriters tell you what a song is about.
In 2008 I wrote a song about the anxiety I had when we let our recently adopted cat, Wilma, out of the house for the first time. I changed it up a bit by adding some of the melancholy I felt when my wife was working away, so that it was a little more universal and a little less twee, but that was the germ of the song nonetheless. We named the song “Wilmington” as it sounds a bit like Wilma and was also the name of a Girls Against Boys song. At that point in time it was pretty much my favourite song that I’d written and remained so for a very long time. I suspect that it’s the song we’ve played live the most. We even made “Wilmington-Marie” Wilma’s pseudo-formal name.
The song came out on our split single with our best friends, @failuresunion . They even put Wilma on the cover of an EP of radio sessions that they released. We put her face on a t-shirt. She’s been something of a totem for my family and I, and for the band. My daughter’s first word was “Wilma”.
I mention all of this because she passed away today and I miss her very, very much.
I really wish she would come back safe and sound, to me.
Hi all, it’s with a heavy heart that we have to pull out of this Thursday’s gig with @her_heads_on_fire and @back_teeth_band at @lepub . Unfortunately, we have a family emergency to attend to. Apologies to our buddies in both bands and at Le Pub. And anyone that wanted to see us. The gig is still on and both bands will rock your world.
On Thursday we will be making noise in @lepub with @her_heads_on_fire and @back_teeth_band . Wonderful people and tunesmiths all. Should be fun. We’ll even practice. Total pros.
