“It’s coming right over to the boat!” There’s no doubt about it, Blue Whales definitely love our new @gonewhalewatching boat the Hana Hou! We saw 20+ individual Blue Whales across all of our 2.5 hour trips yesterday, and at one point during our sunset tour we could see as many as 20-30+ Blue Whale spouts all at once across the horizon! Just an astonishing number of whales for the month of May! Drones don’t record sound of course, so I added in the sound from the captain’s bridge that @erica.sackrison recorded from her cell phone to capture the excitement from your @gonewhalewatching crew! My personal favorite is at the very end when Captain @saltheetai declares: “THAT THING’S HUGE!” 😂 The best time to see Blue Whales is when the sightings have been numerous and consistent, and it doesn’t get much better than the last 10 days or so. If you’re in the San Diego area, what are you waiting for!? #GoneWhaleWatching

The best whale watching on Earth is happening in San Diego waters RIGHT NOW!!! The @gonewhalewatching team set out on a filming expedition yesterday to show you all just how epic the current Blue Whale sightings are, but we never expected to witness surface feeding from Blue Whales! This is one of the rarest behaviors to witness from a Blue Whale, and it just goes to show you how happy these whales are feeding in San Diego right now! If you want to experience some of the best whale watching taking place anywhere in the world at this exact moment, I strongly recommend you book a trip with @gonewhalewatching this Memorial Day weekend! There are more whales out there right now than we can count! Video by @bluelifewild aboard @gonewhalewatching For licensing and media requests please send all inquiries to [email protected]

There’s few places on earth with the potential to see so many different whale species, and San Diego is one of them! With @gonewhalewatching You can watch all my long form videos in 4k on YouTube!

For Mother’s Day we wanted to revisit one of our most touching moments with a blue whale calf! Every once in a while we’re lucky enough to encounter a mom/calf pair of blue whales. When approached respectfully, the moms often become very comfortable with our boat…even leaving their calves with us for extended periods of time while she dives deep to feed! This is sometimes referred to as “parking”, or as we call it: babysitting! Captain @dolphindronedom is releasing a special narrated recap of this encounter for Mother’s Day tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that! Footage captured by himself and @bluelifewild ! P. S. We had our first 2026 encounter with a mom/calf pair of blue whales yesterday with captain @jess_whales !

Dwarfed by a Giant 🎥: @Bluelifewild As the largest creature in the ocean makes its way into the feeding grounds, the humpback whale alters course, falls astern, and yields the prime position to the blue whale. The krill now find themselves directly in the path of the largest predator on Earth… a very dangerous place to be. The oceans are worth protecting. Filmed aboard @gonewhalewatching San Diego.

The last breath from a blue whale before diving is always the most impressive! Viewed last weekend aboard @gonewhalewatching

The first blue whales of 2026 have already been encountered, but the true season will pick up steam over the coming weeks. Our extended blue whale search tours with @gonewhalewatching are your best chance at encountering this living giant, and we’ve already sold out 60% of our summer dates! If you’re thinking about coming to see blues this summer, we recommend grabbing those spots while you still can! Does that mean the extended tours are the only way to see blue whales? Of course not! It’s true the longer duration and extended range help a lot, but of the blues we’ve seen so far this year, the 2.5 hour trips have seen them too! The coastal waters have had a lot of krill this spring, and that bodes well for blue whale sightings on the 2.5 hour trips throughout the season as well. But if you’re down for an adventure, the extended tours are the best odds you’ll get!

Multiple blue whales again today with @gonewhalewatching ! If you are local or are in San Diego, the month of May would be an excellent time to book before the summer crowds arrive. We have a couple more 5 hour trips on the schedule before we switch our extended trips over to the more expensive “Extended Blue Whale” search trips, but all of our 2.5 hour trips the last three days have seen blue whales as well. It’s shaping up to be an excellent season!

This is what I would consider the “signature view” of a blue whale in a vertical crop format. It really does make them look like a living submarine, and I love that the smallest variation in light and surface conditions can make each shot feel unique…even when they’re from almost identical angles! That’s multiple days in a row with multiple blue whales for @gonewhalewatching !

Say hello to our not-so-little friend! An absolutely gigantic blue whale surfaced right next to us this morning! For weeks we’ve been spending time with dozens of fin whales on our tours, and now it appears the blue whales have arrived! We had 4+ blue whales feeding on krill this morning mixed in with more than 20 combined fin and humpback whales! This is 3 days in a row with blue whales, and they seem settled in and hungry! Here’s what that means for whale watching right now: If you book a trip this week/weekend it is a near guarantee to see whales on every style of tour we offer, with an exceptionally good chance at encountering a blue whale specifically! We also have a few spots on our 5 hour tours this weekend, which would be very likely to encounter blue, fin, humpback, and minke whales all on one trip! P.s. Hana Hou tickets are currently listed at 50% off on Saturday! Get your tickets and come see these giants with @gonewhalewatching

The two-toned beauty of the second largest animal on Earth(Day)! The last three days were some of the very best fin whale watching imaginable with @gonewhalewatching in San Diego. Substantial krill production has led to extended tours with over 30 whales! We’ve even stretched the range of our 2.5 hour trips as well recently to connect with this impressive group of giants! High winds will keep us off the water today, but if the fin whales are any indication, we would not be surprised if we started seeing blue whales a bit ahead of schedule!

A fin whale with TWO calves!? Not exactly…It is a near certainty that the two young whales in this clip are not twins, and here’s why: To our knowledge there have never been documented twins in any baleen whale species that have survived. We are still reviewing footage, but our current theory is that this was sort of a “play date” situation, as multiple cow/calf pairs of fin whales have been in the area. Unlike humpback or gray whale calves that are essentially glued to their mom’s hip, blue and fin whale calves are often given much more freedom to roam. We’ve seen both blue and fin whale calves separate from their mothers by more than a mile during feeding before eventually rejoining. We only witnessed this trio together on the surface for about 5 minutes before they dove. With so many whales in the area, it was nearly impossible to pick out individuals from the crowd…so we never did see them again. Captain @dolphindronedom will share more footage and insights from this encounter in the coming days!
