The Greatest 🎥: @bluelifewild 4k, 5k, 8k, why would you need so much resolution? I like to have hi resolution so that I can crop my videos into interesting clips. I’ve posted this clip before without the crop and now it has new life with a significant crop factor. Also, shooting with extra space in the frame allows for greater stabilization in editing. Yes, the drone is stable, but let’s just say that my piloting skills are not quite as stable as they could be… But I’m learning from the best… filmed onboard @gonewhalewatching #sandiego with @dolphindronedom on one of the most memorable days of 2022… or ever… The oceans are worth protecting. #blue #whale #ballenaazul #whales #whalewatching #marineconservation #underwaterphotography #naturephotography #protectwhatyoulove #bethechange #slowtheships #stopghostgear #bluelifewild

The Greatest Creature on Earth 🎥: @Bluelifewild Filming surface feeding blue whales was beyond bucket list! The first time I saw a blue whale lunge, I was completely caught off guard… truthfully I wasn’t even sure what I was looking at because the whale rose up vertically and the amount of whale that was above the water was just too enormous to make sense of… It would be a full year later until I actually filmed a full lunge feeding successfully. Top wildlife encounter dream come true! The oceans are worth protecting. Filmed aboard @gonewhalewatching San Diego

Beautiful Blue Whale 🎥: @bluelifewild The exhalation of a blue whale, often referred to as a spout, a blow, or a blowy is the tallest of all the whales and visible from miles away. In calm conditions, spouts can linger in the air for quite a while and create beautiful visual effects as sunlight passes through the swirling water droplets. The oceans are worth protecting. Filmed aboard @gonewhalewatching San Diego Special thanks to @kiteoptics_nature @kiteoptics_usa for giving me the ability to correctly ID this non-fluking blue whale from about 2 miles away in a feeding zone that was thick with about 2 dozen fin whales.

For Mother’s Day we wanted to revisit one of our most touching moments with a blue whale calf! Every once in a while we’re lucky enough to encounter a mom/calf pair of blue whales. When approached respectfully, the moms often become very comfortable with our boat…even leaving their calves with us for extended periods of time while she dives deep to feed! This is sometimes referred to as “parking”, or as we call it: babysitting! Captain @dolphindronedom is releasing a special narrated recap of this encounter for Mother’s Day tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that! Footage captured by himself and @bluelifewild ! P. S. We had our first 2026 encounter with a mom/calf pair of blue whales yesterday with captain @jess_whales !

Dwarfed by a Giant 🎥: @Bluelifewild As the largest creature in the ocean makes its way into the feeding grounds, the humpback whale alters course, falls astern, and yields the prime position to the blue whale. The krill now find themselves directly in the path of the largest predator on Earth… a very dangerous place to be. The oceans are worth protecting. Filmed aboard @gonewhalewatching San Diego.

Silver Whale 🎥: @Bluelifewild What color are blue whales? In blue water, they look blue… in green water, they look green… and in glistening silvery seas, they look silver! The biggest animals on Earth are not exactly camouflage, but the mottled grey skin on their back does seem to take on the color of whatever water they are in! The oceans are worth protecting. The Best Fin Whale Surface Feeding Event 🎥: @Bluelifewild This last week has been fincredible!! I’ve never seen so many surface feeding fin whales together in one aggregation as I did this week! The drone takes away about 100,000lbs but these are the second largest animals on the planet and they are simply gorging themselves on krill! That much action is hard to keep secret, and by the end of the week we had humpbacks, minkes, and even blue whales showing up to the festivities! Unforgettable days aboard @gonewhalewatching San Diego The oceans are worth protecting.

and so it begins… 🎥: @Bluelifewild Blue whale summer 2026 begins today! We found multiple blue whales today feeding on krill… alongside fins, humpbacks, and a minke! The biggest animals on Earth demand a tremendous amount of food every day. It’s still early for blues… but if the krill sticks around, then hopefully the blue whales will too! The oceans are worth protecting. Filmed today aboard @gonewhalewatching San Diego

Back to Where You Are Now… 🎥: @Bluelifewild I was lucky to find 3 new species (new to me) while on vacation in the Cook Islands! The crown-of-thorns starfish, the giant clam, and last but certainly not least the incredibly beautiful and way-bigger-than-I-could-have-ever-imagined Spanish Dancer nudibranch! The size and vibrance of these nudibranchs absolutely blew me away! It seems that the crown-of-thorns have become a problem on Rarotonga reefs and most likely the giant clam was relocated to the shallow lagoon for the amusement of tourists, and profits of guide boats… it’s sadly true…that conservation issues are happening everywhere…but I was just out there on my own, snorkeling for hours on end and enjoying everything I could get my eyes on! Every once in a while I was able to get a little footage too. The oceans are worth protecting.
