Happy International Women’s day!
Gone Rural has since 1992, been working together with rural women in Eswatini. We have been through ups and downs together and have learned from each other. We have overcome challenges together and firsthand seen what investing in women can lead to; strong families and thriving communities.
Today we celebrate our network of women and what we have achieved together.
The two first pictures are from our recent production trip to Mphuluzi, and the last picture and video is from the hand over event of the Planting for the Future project @bomakeruralprojects has implemented in Edlangeni and Lamgabhi.
Today our production team visited Mphuluzi to distribute an order. Mphuluzi is located in North Western Eswatini, you drive through plantations of pine and gum trees to get there. When reaching an opening in the forest you get to the groups’s meeting place.
Today we met a small group of women, who were very happy to see us and receive an order for production!
As soon as the grass was distributed boMake got to work. Whilst talking to each other the hands were working quickly, platting the rope that will be turned into placemats.
Siyabonga boMake!

Placemats have been one of Gone Rural’s best selling products for decades. The shapes, sizes and colours have changed over the years, but the way they are made have stayed the same.
The thousands and thousands of placemats that have been produced and sold has contributed to women educating the children, feeding their families, and enabling the family to stay together.
As you sit down around your dining table adorned by Gone Rural placemats, we thank you for investing in the dreams of women in rural Eswatini.
