Last day of June, which means the last day of Men’s Mental Health Month.
I figured it was a good time to share this recycled skateboard sculpture I made earlier this year appropriately titled “Mental Health”. Especially now that the world seems to be going to shit a bit faster than usual and everyone seems to be feeling it.
Grad school really did a number on me — constant burnout, low self-esteem, and eventually, full-on depression and anxiety. Getting help changed everything. Therapy isn’t weakness; it’s actually one of the bravest things you can do.
I’m back in therapy (plus meds), and I’ve been feeling way more hopeful and good about myself. The future’s still uncertain, but I’m learning to trust that it’ll all work out.

Woodshop type of day
Turning some of my old skateboards into a spray can on the lathe. When my skateboards break, I sand them down, take the grip tape off and glue them into solid blocks. From there I can make just about anything that I could with regular wood!
The spray can has always been a recurring symbol in my work since graffiti was my entryway into the art world

“Las Plantas No Conocen De Fronteras”,

“Las Plantas No Conocen De Fronteras” is a piece that draws a parallel between the natural state of plants and the man made concept of borders. Just like plants that find ways to grow through fences, adapting to limited space and harsh conditions, immigrants often adapt to new environments, cultures, and challenges in order to survive and thrive. A fence may be designed to create boundaries, but plants persistently push through the gaps, symbolizing that life finds a way. Similarly, borders are human-made constructs, but people cross them in search of better opportunities, safety, and a future.

A virtual assemblage made up of 3D scanned video game consoles. Using Blender 3D rendering software, I transformed and positioned each console on top of each other to resemble a section of a landfill.
Here I aim to represent the forgotten consoles that at their own time, used to be the pinnacle of gaming technology. Once filling our childhoods with unforgettable memories to now being discarded and forgotten.
