The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recently announced this year’s inductees, and while a few pioneers made the list, one name immediately stood out: SADE.
Sade wasn’t just an artist, she became the embodiment of cool. She’s an aesthetic. She’s a whole mood. So much so that Gen Z emulates her style and makes edits of her music to this day.
At a time when celebrity is about being as visible as possible, Sade has maintained a level of privacy that very few can. You rarely see her, and she hasn’t released a full-length project in over 16 years.
She has a legacy in culture that few have, and it can’t be overstated. So for this edition of the @snobhop newsletter, we’re talking about one of the GOATs. You might want some coffee with this one. Y’all know the vibes! Hit the link in the bio to give it a read...
Before anime was mainstream, or Japanese denim became popular, Lupe Fiasco helped bring those things to the main stream and highlight aversion of cool that many black youth never saw from hip-hop. On March 28th, 2006, T.I. released “King” — ATL was just about to hit movie theatres, ‘What You Know’ was at the top of the Billboard charts, and he had just emerged from in a back and forth with Lil Flip (the catalyst for that situation being his claim that he was the King of the South)
King is the halfway point between T.I. that was on the come up & T.I. that was the verge of becoming a pop star. Because it released the same day as ATL, this week’s SNOBHOP newsletter is two-feature drop.
The Catch?
The @snobhop King retrospective is for the paid supporters for now. Y’all know the vibes though!

Before Atlanta culture became the huge exportable product that it is today, ATL helped mythologize the city and spread its lore to those who had never visited, and it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary this month.
ATL inntroduced the entire world to Atlanta’s skating/dancing culture, and helped launch the careers of Lauren London, Evan Ross and more. It was also released the same week that T.I.’s 4th studio album “King” made its way to the to the world. It was an important year in Atlanta’s continuing development as a major city.
With that said, this edition of the SNOBHOP newsletter is all about ATL, 20 years later. Y’all know the vibes, HIt the link in the bio to check it out

Some entertainers feel less like celebs and more like family. You grew up with them; they graced your TV screen at pivotal points in your life and influenced everything from how you talk/dress, to how you show up in the world. Often, their resumes are so long that you almost forget how long they’ve been in the game.
Which brings us to @itsjasonweaver Jason’s been in the entertainment biz for over 30 years and has been part of some of the biggest classic Black film and TV shows, including Smart Guy, Sister, Sister, and Drumline.
In a recent interview with the Art of Dialogue, he began recounting different parts of his career, which served as a reminder to many of how underrated he is, so it’s only right that this week is all about giving a legend their flowers.
In this edition of the @snobhop newsletter, we talk about the career of the man and the myth: Jason Weaver. Y’all know the vibes... Hit the link in the bio to give it a read!
As a new wave of talent emerges on the music front, so does the talent on the media side. In the 90s, we had Danyel Smith, Angie Martinez, Dream Hampton, etc., who helped tell incredible stories at places like VIBE, The Source & XXL.
Building on the foundation they’ve laid, a new generation of women in Hip-hop media is helping take the culture even further. Voices like @ginaviews , @lorenlorosa , @neweryork , @elsienotelisee and more are building out platforms that cater to both indie & established acts and, in the process, are shaping the scene for years to come.
In this edition of the SNOBHOP newsletter, we talk about some of the women in Hip-hop media we should all be on the lookout for as they continue to build. Y’all know the vibes... Hit the link in the bio to give it a read!
