Reissued now on @ppudc these hot trax were made in 2014 and whilst GL are on a hiatus (Melbourne Soul joke) both Ella and Graeme are super busy making and playing the funk full time! Two friends G + L from Melbourne decided to start a duo ensemble back in 2013 with the quest to learn how to make squelchy boogie and funk, pay homage to this great genre, release it on a cassette, maybe play a few parties and keep it simple. Squealing synths, DX drum machines and a handheld mic were set up in the corner of G’s bedroom where we made the first six songs which became our EP ‘Love Hexagon’ . Through the grapevine our music made its way to Vic and James who were starting their new label @heyplasticworld ❤️ Vic said ‘Don’t change a thing, let’s put this out’ and so we did in 2014. From there we played some epic shows and had many fulfilling experiences making records and also some pandemic and personal setbacks. 10 years on we look back at the first songs we made and celebrate the spirit of early GL. When a message arrived from Andrew from the DC label @ppudc who was interested in reissuing Take Me Back/Won’t You See on a 7” we were blown away. Being one of our favourite labels and home to our heroes Dwight Sykes and @psychicmirrors A credit to our loyal listeners in the US who bought the majority of our records from our bandcamp. We are really honoured to have your support from the other side of the world. If you’d like to buy a record we will be keep 100 copies for Australia and the rest can be found direct through PPU.
