glasspass: from dorm sketch to heady marketplace 💨 🏠 dorm-room beginnings: in 2017, 2 usc sophomores— @lifeofbako & @samabdallahh —sketched a safer lane for glass. instagram sales felt risky, so they built escrow into the culture. it wasn’t about random “trades”—it was about connecting buyers & sellers with trust. 📱 pivot to apps: the 1st site missed, but in 2021 they relaunched @glasspass on ios & android. traction came quick: tens of thousands of users & hundreds of thousands in volume, proof the glass world wanted rails. 🛡️ escrow edge: buyer funds lock in, seller ships w/ strict packing rules, unboxing videos protect both sides. from $300 spoons to $10k rigs, @glasspass baked in peace of mind. 💸 payouts & flow: tiered seller fees kept it fair, buyer protection added a safety net. dots wallets handled payouts, w/ faster release for trusted sellers. liquidity met accountability. 🖼️ names on deck: listings span legends like mothership, @toroglass , @saltglass , @elboglass , @quaveglass , darby holm, eusheen, @banjoglass , mike luna, akm, @nathan_miers & more. most of these are collector resales today—not direct from the artist benches (yet). big-name drops & auctions are planned soon. 🌐 rebuild era: 2024 brought a full code rewrite, binding offers, instant buys, written reviews, google-indexed web relaunch. user base cracked 100k+, cementing @glasspass as more than an app. 📰 culture cosign: insider, leaf mag, budsfeed, cannabis creative & svbj all spotlighted the rise, positioning @lifeofbako as a gen-z founder reframing heady glass as collectible art. 🎉 puffcon 2025: @glasspass is sponsoring & pulling up to @puffcon_la oct 4–5. 100+ artists, 5 live glass-blowing setups, food, music & the biggest sesh downtown la will see this fall. 🌍 impact: what once lived in sketchy dms is now a structured system. artists, galleries & collectors trade on rails, w/ safety & liquidity built in. @glasspass isn’t just a market, it’s glass infrastructure. 🚀 dorm sketch → global exchange. 2 kids from usc built the rails, the culture filled the shelves. in glass we trust, in buyers & sellers we connect. - @nuggnotes 🪴

this is absolutely wild. @businessinsider writing about GlassPass? Time to show the world what this community is all about 💚 I’m mind blown every day what this passion project has turned into. I just wanted to have a safe place for all of us to see what glass was out there and to share the art to those who still look down on smoking weed. I didn’t really expect GlassPass to completely take over my entire life, but I wouldn’t change anything. I love this community and culture more than anything. Let’s get this shit together! glass goddess: fractal foam devi 🧿 fractal foam devi (2024) is a borosilicate glass sculpture measuring approx 8” × 9” × 7.5”. presented as fine art, it operates inside a visual language born from weed culture rather than traditional gallery glass. 🧪 the work is made in borosilicate, the “hard glass” long tied to laboratory equipment. only in recent decades did this material enter the collector art lane, once american artists began pushing color oxides & sculptural risk. 🌈 @banjoglass ’s work is defined by hybridity. decorative patterning & color instincts associated w/ soft-glass traditions are translated into tighter geometry & durability, producing forms that feel ornate yet engineered. 🌀 tubes, curves & routed pathways stay visible. internal logic becomes exterior language, turning functional mechanics into surface-level sculpture. ✨ the article describes @banjoglass using ambitious coloration methods, including blowing gold & silver dust into molten glass under torch heat. depth, shimmer & spectacle replace flat surface color. 👁️ the “devi” naming places the sculpture inside a goddess framework, aligning w/ @banjoglass ’s recurring use of mythic & spiritual references filtered through pop-surreal aesthetics. 🎨 the lineage nods to early functional glass innovators like @bobsnodgrass1946 , while visual reference points include @giger_art & @alexgreycosm . these influences merge machine logic, anatomy & spiritual symbolism. 🖼️ fractal foam devi exists in a scarcity-driven market where demand exceeds supply. major works by @banjoglass are described as approaching $100,000, supported by a discreet secondary market. fine-art entry is tied to curator @greg.escalante , who exhibited @banjoglass alongside pop-surreal & lowbrow contemporaries, including shows connected to @the_chambers_project . 📰 written by @mrpearcee for @mutualart & published 11/20, 2024, framing fractal foam devi inside the rise of high-end glass as fine art emerging from cannabis culture. 🥣 even as fine art, @banjoglass ’s sculptures retain subtle cues of function, tube endings, mouthpiece suggestions, bowl forms, signaling evolution rather than erasure of origin. - @nuggnotes 🪴

King of Kings: the lion that ruled the glass world 👑🦁 🧱 studio grind to lion vision: @buckglass & @sweaterkingpin spent almost 3 years building a one-off functional lion hookah in @buckglass ’ oregon studio, planning every color pull & cold-work detail to the millimeter. 🦁 sculpture with lungs: fully functional at roughly 24 x 18 x 11 in. hand-mixed North Star light yellow shapes the body. more than 30 @sweaterkingpin facets sit inside & out, cut like gems & treated as jewelry rather than components. 💎 face & crown: 9 aligned facets form the lion’s face. the crown & mane carry 12 fumed jewels in silver & gold ruby. the chest holds five diamond-cut jewels, centered by a larger focal stone. ⚙️ engineering under the mane: the chest contains a removable functional section. inside is a suspended, gold-ruby diamond percolator housed in a beaker-style hookah assembly tuned for smooth, balanced diffusion. 🪝 flexible glass, two hoses: @buckglass ’ articulated glass hoses end in hollow, faceted @sweaterkingpin mouthpieces. this solves classic hookah handling issues while keeping the entire piece in glass from tip to base. 🎟️ heaterz debut: the lion debuted at @everdreamstudio ’s up heaterz show at space gallery in denver on december 11, 2021, immediately treated by artists & collectors as a museum-grade functional. 💰 the number everyone heard: community posts from that weekend reported a private sale near 250,000 (allegedly). no public auction record exists, which is normal at this level of heady glass. 👑 why it hit: king of kings merged @buckglass ’ large-scale engineering with @sweaterkingpin ’s precision faceting, creating a single coherent object where hoses, crown, chest jewels & the internal float perc all tell the same design story. 📸 afterglow: photos, videos & later reels kept the lion in circulation. it remains a benchmark for how far functional borosilicate can be pushed, both technically & culturally. Kings of King was displayed 12/11/2021. 4 years ago from today. - @nuggnotes 🪴

degenerate art: the doc that turned pipes into glass art 🔥🎥 🔥 2011 art or paraphernalia? when degenerate art landed, it reframed the pipe as an american art object instead of contraband. @marble.slinger made the doc cuz his life’s work kept getting treated like evidence, not culture; after yrs on the torch under raid threats he picked up a camera 2 give pipe makers a voice & frame the craft as cannabis art activism. 💨 snodgrass & touring spark the story opens w/ @bobsnodgrass1946 , dead tour flame worker behind color-changing glass. parking-lot demos turned into traveling classes, seeding the lineage that shaped modern heady culture & treating a spoon like a canvas. ⚖️ pipe dreams & underground years the doc revisits operation pipe dreams (2003), the federal sweep that hit 55 artists & distributors. studios closed, makers went underground & functional glass got labeled “criminal craftsmanship.” slinger frames it as pressure that hardened the scene. 🔥 function becomes fine art in the 2000s, @jerome_baker , @jasonleeglass , scott deppe, @elboglass & others step forward as sculptors. the message sharpens: these aren’t “bongs,” they’re american studio glass built on color theory, sculpture & technical risk. 📺 the streaming shift after sxsw 2012, streams on netflix, hulu & other platforms took the story beyond head shops. artists, designers, students & collectors saw functional glass presented like gallery work, normalizing five-figure pieces & legitimizing torchwork. 🌈 a title reclaimed by flipping “degenerate art,” slinger links pipe makers 2 artists once dismissed by institutions. if the government called pipes contraband, that stigma only amplified their cultural charge. 🎨 why it still matters the film gave the movement its narrative: snodgrass, dead tour, pipe dreams, underground, renaissance. that arc became a reference point for the 2nd wave, from mothership 2 banjo 2 every new-school torch kid studying old clips. 🧠 today its impact runs through gallery shows, collector drops, museum talks & the vocabulary of the scene. degenerate art didn’t just document heady glass, it legitimized it & gave the culture a lineage 2 build on. - @nuggnotes 🪴
