thank you @glass.splinters π thank you @sevencitiesago π thank you Donna So π thank you @hot.mess.hollow π thank you @coffeerubiesglass π thank you @megredner π thank you @befreeglass (who I ~think~ sent in the 1,000th crane) π thank you staff from @congcemetery for spending the day with me at Bird Time today <3
I am famously bad at counting so take this Instagram countdown with a grain of salt but I feel comfortable saying we have made at least 1,000 stained glass cranes with the wish that all trans and gender non conforming folks be loved fully by the communities that surround them.
I will work on a new FAQ but know I am still accepting mailed in cranes/hosting Bird Time as long as I am able to maintain my public facing studio. This will give me cushion if cranes ever break or to expand the installation beyond 1,000. Thank you everyone who has participated so far! I canβt wait to show you what weβve built.
The flock will be displayed for the first time publicly at Congressional Cemeteryβs Gays & Graves event June 14th 2026 at the chapel.
Sometimes you bite the bullet and schedule that "someday" trip to the Grand Canyon so you can ALSO see a giant stained glass snake while it's still on display.
@korinaoswald , thank you for making Earl happen. Seeing him in person really puts into perspective what an absolute beast of a project this was. So many beautiful pieces by hundreds of talented people. I'm feeling really grateful to have been part of it, and to have had the chance to geek out in front of it. β¨οΈ
Glass is fun.
Also pictured: excessively large hole in ground, big blobs on top of ground, sleep-deprived nerd covered in so much sunscreen, etc.
I'm not going to tell you about the lil solder crater I never got around to fixing, and you're not going to look for it π€
π
Been a long time since my last post! I've been making things here and there, and have lots of stained glass pieces at various stages of completion... including this piece, which I've thought of as a WIP for months (due to soldering flaws) until a visitor saw it, loved it, and I said, "have it".
Decided to document this guy before saying farewell, and now have a much better understanding of what glass artists mean when they talk about how hard it is to get somewhat passable (or even good!) photos of their work. Geesh!
This is another piece from my work through the @linebaughstudios book.
Here's my lil scale for the massive @americanglassguild community project that the fearless @korinaoswald is coordinating. She's constructing a snake from hundreds of scales sent to her by folks from all over the place. Stained glass, fused glass, painted glass. All the people, all the glass. Korina is a warrior.
This guy is supposed to be a salamander. North Carolina has more species of salamanders than anywhere. Amazing. It's my favorite NC fact. He's got toes. I LOVE those toes. π¦

In this episode of Stacey Has Only a Very Small Idea of What She's Doing:
1. Made a pattern for the first time, at the very last minute. My back exploded itself and I didn't think I'd be able to make anything. But then my back started working again (mostly), which is nice.
2. Knew some of the pieces would be a butthole to cut/grind, but plowed ahead anyway. Regrets? Yes. And also no. But yes. There are things I'd do differently next time.
3. Forgot what "saddling" is until the foil reminded me, so I got to try that out.
4. Tried foil overlay for the first time so I could make his lil toes, and it even kinda worked. I love them.
5. Soldered for the first time since Christmas, and it went not terrible. I'm really looking forward to having an opportunity to practice when I'm not in a major time crunch.
6. I shipped glass for the first time ever. Made a foam/cardboard/bubble wrap sandwich to keep him cozy, the way I've seen all the Wise Ones do. Good luck, buddy.π€
7. I learned that making a stained glass thing that has to be an exact size is VERY STRESSFUL, INDEED. β οΈ He may even not be. Who knows! Not me. We'll see! It is what it is, and I love his toes regardless. π
Gave this little friend away before I thought I was done working on it β added a jump ring and cord on the way out the door Thanksgiving day, and that was that. Probably for the best that I didn't have time to obsess over the quest for perfection.
I like stained glass.
Now, back to my regularly scheduled spreadsheets π
I finished this, cleaned it, and hung it up. I haven't been up close to it since, and haven't taken any real photos of it. I *think* I might be proud of the solder lines. But I'm kind of afraid to look close enough to really see them.
So I just stare at it from across the room and wonder about it and thank glass jesus that I don't have to do a THING with that light pink glass unless/until I'm feeling particularly brave again. She's evil. π

Projects 2 and 3, made in the 1-day quilt block classes last winter and spring at @sawtoothschool .
Wish I knew what that minty coke-bottle ripple glass is in the first one.

My very first piece π
The prospect of cutting glass was (and is!) more than a little intimidating and the whole thing felt a little like a fever dream, but I absolutely loved it.
