This past few years I had the pleasure of teaching an incredible cohort of students who helped me in more ways than they will ever know. Their nomination for MICA’s Trustees Award for Excellence in Teaching showed me how much of my mom lives within me, and I am so grateful for that. I can’t wait to see what they get up to next. 💫💞
Thank you to all the faculty, especially @reneerendine and @lauredrogoul for supporting me this year. @mica.generalfinearts #art #highered #marylandinstitutecollegeofart

Comprising a set of sensual yet uniform curves, 𝘍𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 1 (2022), ripples in languid motion. The work is a decorative object that cleverly subverts viewers' expectations of home design; the strict geometricism of the overriding tile motif melts against the raised pillowy form of the piece. Steeped in the familiarity of modernist design, soft, organic elements temper the cool detachment of the work’s minimal form. These disparities, however, ultimately achieve a sense of harmonic symmetry. Divorced from any functional use, the object embodies a disconcerting interplay between depth and flatness which produces an uncanny sense of nostalgia.

𝗚𝗶𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶'𝘀 artistic practice transforms the domestic sphere, reimagining the everyday into extraordinary works of structural abstraction. With an eye for overlooked materials—tiles, wood, foam, and other ubiquitous household items—Livi crafts bold compositions that challenge our perceptions of familiar spaces. Her work draws inspiration from mid-century color theory and material culture, blending nostalgia with innovation to disrupt traditional notions of design and home.
At the core of Livi’s practice is a meticulous, process-driven approach that creates disorienting juxtapositions of color, texture, and materiality. These unexpected combinations provoke humor and curiosity while inviting viewers to reconsider the boundaries between art, design, and function. Through her distinctive lens, ordinary objects become portals to the absurd and unfamiliar, elevating domesticity into a space for profound reflection and creativity.
Livi’s work balances playful satire with conceptual depth, bridging the gap between the familiar and the avant-garde. As she continues to push boundaries, her practice remains a testament to the transformative power of art in redefining how we see the spaces we inhabit.
