It’s about a holiday taken by a mother and daughter which is upended when Simone’s teenager Lucy is kidnapped. Left in her place is an old-fashioned ransom. It demands she not tell the police, and head to an abandoned rest stop in the Texan desert. Simone’s husband wants to tell the police, but she and she alone decides she will go to meet the kidnappers in the dead of the night.
What happens there, and what they ask her to do, changes everything.
Caller Unknown is the book of my heart. It’s an ode to mothers and daughters, an epic and wild ride across the American desert. It is closed set, with only two characters for much of it. It’s a love story, it’s an action thriller, and it’s a western.
