Giggling Monkey Studio

When I was younger, I used to save bits of old paper matchbox labels, ticket stubs, magazine clippings with typefaces I liked. I didn’t know why, just that I wanted to hold onto them, like proof that something beautiful had existed. That someone had made something, and it had mattered. I think that’s why I started Giggling Monkey Studio. Not to build something big, but to make things that felt like they belonged to people. To create work that someone might tuck away in a drawer or pin to their wall, not because they had to, but because it made them feel something. Somehow, that turned into this Forbes India Under 30, Special Mention in Design & Architecture. And I should say something profound, but all I can think about is every all-nighter, every moment of doubt, every ridiculous, wonderful project that led me here. The music videos, the branding for chai companies that taste like home, the invites I designed that ended up in a 5-year-old’s hands. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I’ve made it, but I do know this: Design has always been about love. And I love this. I love every late-night brainstorm, every unexpected color palette, every time a client says, this feels like me. I love that we get to make things that people carry with them, even in the smallest ways. Bandra has a new bar and i feel so lucky in saying this out loud that we designed it at @gigglingmonkey.studio , funnily enough I have only lost my phone once and it was in this very street at a bar and this just feels like the punchline of this joke that I get to design my first bar in that very street (first of many!!) haha. @gigglingmonkey.studio is a full-service design & branding studio. November commissions now open. We make good things for good people.

Finally caught a moment to absolutely cherish this the last few weeks. The world is full of so many good people, you need to keep meeting them to keep the magic alive. Back home so inspired and happy, joy is the word that I genuinely feel. I took my home to Milan, a dining room like almost a living breathing dining table, full of people gathering and sharing, what we need so so much. Eating with your mouth open is the feeling you feel when you found out what your favourite dish / meal was. It takes me back to my nanis house and so does Maurizio’s cutlets. Through this dining room we welcome you into our lives a little. Thankyou to everyone who made this illustration into a real room! Something lovely is happening in Milan, and we to be part of it. @mauriziotentella and @giggling_monkey have come together with @ikea to make a room. And a menu. It started, the way these things do, with a conversation about our own dining rooms and then it became about all the small,beautiful things that happen around a table, when we eat with our mouth open!! How we feed each other. And how everyone laughs with the same love! It’s at IKEA’s exhibition for Milan Design Week, April 21–26. We’d love for you to come. Bring someone.
