As promised, the other paintings that were made in this series and a little digital preview of the big one I’m working on. Sometimes I do a rough sketch in Procreate if I want to plan things out a bit more than my usual messy pastel sketch directly to a canvas. I still draw it freehand it to the canvas after but this solves composition and proportion issues before it’s 5x4 feet of an issue.
Sunset (the last horse) is up in Santa Fe at Iconik Lupe until June in @curatesantafe ‘s Year of the Horse show.

As expected, the mountain lion pushed me out of my comfort zone. They say that’s where growth happens. We definitely had a little power struggle. I kept saying “make it bright!” and the lion said, “it’s nighttime, silly.” We finally compromised with pearlescent circle shinies. I tried to skip the circles and spirals but it felt weird and unfinished without them. 😅
