As a label that focuses entirely on small independent projects and artists, we can’t say enough about the importance of supporting small businesses when you have the choice. So rolling into the holiday gift buying glut, we wanted to give a huge shoutout to some of the shops that stock our records.
Recycled Records in Reno - this shop has been supporting locals since day 1
Wyrd War Gallery in Portland, OR - purveyors of general weirdness and underground transmissions
Programme Skate & Sound in Fullerton, CA - a hub of California skate and music culture
Nothing But A Nightmare in Garden Grove, CA - underground music thrives because of spaces like this!
We encourage you to check out the online shops of any of these spaces. Support independent businesses!
Brand new on the Ghost State website ~ most of those with an interest in strange rumblings from the Nevada and California deserts will likely be familiar with Wonderhussy and her YouTube channel. She’ll frequently post about her expeditions to ghost towns, abandoned mines, seedy locales and other places that far fall off of most people’s maps.
For those of us who have an interest in the West’s strange geographies and dusted over histories, Wonderhussy’s travel videos sate something that few others will.
We were honored for her to contribute to the liner notes of our re-release of Madame Beverly Harrell’s Coming My Way record, self-released in the 1970’s while she oversaw the Cottontail Ranch legal brothel in western Nevada.
We were also honored to talk to Wonderhussy a bit about her videos and curiosity for Nevada’s unique brand of strange.

Excited to emerge into the new year with the announcement of our new record!
In 1976, Beverly Harrell - madame of the Cottontail Ranch legal brothel in Lida Junction, Nevada - released a collection of stories and experiences about running the bordello on a vinyl record entitled “Coming My Way” (pun very much intended) that was sold through the ranch’s mail order gift catalog and at select Las Vegas adult bookstores. And believe us when we say that this may be one of the most strange and unique records we’ve ever tracked down!
.
An audio recording that sits at the crossroads of Nevada’s strange history, the madame’s flamboyant personality and storytelling, and the prevalence of the vinyl record’s use as a novel and tactile physical medium with more than simply music that has all but disappeared in today’s digital age, we’re excited about the work we’ve put in to repress Beverly’s album for the first time since it went out of print in the 70’s.
.
Pressed onto Parlor Smoke colored 180 gram vinyl, this new edition contains a brand new 4 panel insert describing the history of Mrs. Harrell and the Cottontail Ranch, including contributions by @wonderhussy Sarah Jane Woodall!
.
We’ve done our best to create a package worthy of the original record, and can confidently say this new edition looks and feels even better. Feel free to stop by the Ghost State website and browse the new album! And wishing an equally exciting happy new year to y’all!

As sexy a collection of dance beats as you’ve ever heard resonate from a sweaty dive bar dance floor at 3am, Werewolf Club talks the making of their full length album. Now posted on the Ghost State site…
.
And if you’re gonna shop this holiday season, please give your support to local independent shops, such as Reno’s Sundance Books & Music where you can find the band’s record.
.
Otherwise you can order direct from us (Reno residents can still waive shipping fees and opt for free delivery by bike… [offer only valid until the first snow 🥶])
One of our favorite events each year is kicking off the summer with the Schellraiser Music Festival over in eastern Nevada! Each year they’ve brought a crazy lineup of indie/punk/americana and just unique bands to a beautifully surreal corner of the state.
.
Just wanted to post this while their early bird pricing was still available since three day passes for $150 is a steal!
.
Stoked to get a chance to see a bunch of the performers at this year’s event!!

Just a reminder that Recycled Records is awesome and has a selection of Ghost State vinyl available! (And did any of you catch the brand new @thewind_org podcast mentioning Recycled in the saga of the Satanic records hullabaloo of the early 1990’s? Definitely worth a listen!)

KWNK 97.7 FM - Reno’s Community Radio Station just celebrated its 6th birthday, and we’ve been stoked to have been a part of it with our show, Nocturnal Transmissions, for nearly as long!
.
Each Sunday night we hit the turntables broadcasting a mix of mostly non-commercial music into the airwaves for anyone who still owns an FM radio…
.
In addition, we’ve had the chance to speak with artists, musicians, authors and general miscreants on air - doing our job to pollute the airwaves and provide an alternative to the mainstream.
.
We’ve just collected most of these interviews and put them all into a single place for your listening pleasure!
.
Turn on, tune in, fuck shit up!
