Gestern hat der bbk berlin die Studie „Prekäre Hauptstadt, Kreative Existenzen“ präsentiert. Die Ergebnisse sind eindeutig: Berliner Bildende Künstler*innen arbeiten unter strukturell prekären Bedingungen – und das mitten in einer Stadt, die sich Kulturmetropole nennt! Symptomatisch dafür war auch der Veranstaltungsort: Denn auch im Bethanien wissen Künstler*innen nicht, ob ihre Atelierverträge zum Jahresende verlängert werden. Frauke Boggasch, Co-Sprecherin des bbk berlin, brachte es auf den Punkt: Hope Labour – das Arbeiten auf Hoffnung ohne faire Entlohnung – ist für viele Berliner Künstler*innen bittere Realität. Im Rahmen der Präsentation gingen die Sprecherinnen auch auf die Wünsche und Forderungen der Befragten aus der qualitativen Erhebung ein. The findings are clear: Berlin-based visual artists work under structurally precarious conditions – in a city that calls itself a cultural metropolis. The venue itself was symptomatic: even at the Bethanien, artists do not know whether their affordable studio contracts will be renewed by the end of the year. Vor wenigen Tagen kritisierte unsere Co-Sprecherin Frauke Boggasch beim Pressefrühstück die massiven Kulturhaushalts-Kürzungen: “Ich verstehe die Kurzsichtigkeit der Politik nicht. Berlin hat keine Industrie. Diese Stadt lebt von Kunst und Kultur. Und schmückt sich damit.” Die Kürzungen fordern einen hohen Preis: “Berlin hat bisher noch nach New York die höchste Dichte an Bildenden Künstler*innen, doch die KSK-Zahlen zeigen 2024 bereits einen Wegzug von fünf Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr.” Ursachen sind sinkende Einkommen, fehlende bezahlbare Wohn- und Arbeitsräume sowie schwindende Einnahmequellen. Fraukes Worte sind klar: “Die Zielgruppe darf sich nicht verschieben. Hier muss man unterscheiden: Die Kreativwirtschaft wird immer mehr gefördert, aber Bildende Künstler*innen sind etwas anderes. Bildende Künstler*innen haben andere Gehälter, andere Arbeitsbedingungen und brauchen gezielte Förderung, statt statt systematisch ausgeschlossen zu werden.” .
