Great to be selected as a finalist in the Mandorla Art Award 2026. It’s my first time entering, which makes this especially significant. Looking forward to this theme-based exhibition @gallery.hac #mandorlaartaward #contemporaryartaustralia #whatistruth #photographicsculpture

Having a “Rapunzel” moment printing for @gera_woltjer . This work came cascading over our print rollers. The image is so raw and so realistic that it’s hard to believe this is a print. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Still 7:53:55 by @gera_woltjer in JUMP CUTS Captured during the 2025 studio residency at Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre, this photograph observes how light breaks through the cast iron grid-frame windows of the gothic building. The work is part of an ongoing study into how light interacts with built space through the window grids—how it moves, settles, and transforms the atmosphere. Bio Gera Woltjer is a Dutch/Australian conceptual artist.. Her multimedia practice draws from site-specific inspiration to explore how the built environment and design interact with the public who engage with these spaces. Working across photography, printed media, drawing, and installation, Woltjer nurtures a lifelong fascination with the often overlooked patterns and structures that underpin the built world. Through tactile and layered compositions, she investigates how these systems influence the way people organise space, navigate their surroundings, and form internal frameworks of thought. Her practice invites reflection on the quiet aesthetics embedded in everyday environments. Woltjer’s work is represented in collections including Artbank Australia, the Artists Books Collection, State Library of Queensland, City of Melville Art Collection and the Geraldton-Greenough Art Collection.

OMETEPE, open until Sunday, 10-4pm Rockingham Arts Centre, 11 Kent Street. Thanks to all the people who supported me in this journey. Gera Woltjer has been intrigued by the shapes of volcanoes for a long time. Moving from the Netherlands - a flat and densely populated country – to Nicaragua in 1990, she visited the island of Ometepe*, rising out of Lake Nicaragua. The historical and cultural significance of the two volcanoes Concepción and Maderas on the small island left a lasting impression of a spiritual kind. Woltjer frequently revisits that experience in her practice, seeking to expand upon the fascinating forms and sensations using multiple mediums including drawings, textiles, and mixed media. *Ometepe: from Nahuatl (an Aztec language) ‘ome’ (=two) and ‘tepetl’ (=mountain/peak) #drawinginstallation #drawingpractice #conceptualdrawings @cityofrockingham @rockinghamartscentre_friends #tekenkunst

The final days to view GR#D @perthcentreforphotography - the exhibition ends Saturday 4 March. 357 Murray Street, 10am - 4 pm. 💥 Tell me which work is your favourite. Though there is a fine finish to Woltjer’s prints and sample books, every work is the result of play and experimentation. Woltjer trusts that that given time in the studio, each arrangement of materials will eventually declare itself. Either by clicking into a satisfying assemblage, or in gently rebelling against the perfect lines of the grid, her piles of materials slowly reach a state of completeness and correctness which the artist locks in place with photography. When photographed, Woltjer is free to manipulate the scale and cropping of her grids. These recompositions are often expressive: some are dramatically large, fresh in colour, even moody. In this way, the casual simplicity of Woltjer’s prints are in fact highly laboured, arrived at via a long series of iteration and micro-judgements about what looks good.
