Forgive me a brief indulgence. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wished I was ‘good enough’ to be able to paint freehand designs on my models like all the great miniature painters in the magazines.
I never even tried. I was too scared to mess up my models and thought I would just settle for doing a solid job painting minis for my games with none of those flourishes or special techniques.
Well, I’ve been painting a lot recently, since it’s a great escape from work pressure, keeps me off my phone, and is a great pastime for mental health.
I’m working on some models for Konflikt ‘47 and had an idea that I’d like to do a Green Vault themed army and give them an oak motif. So today I had a go. This is the result. One of their chest plates.
It’s the first time I’ve ever tried to paint a freehand design, and I’m insanely pleased with it. It’s a tiny piece. Just goes to show—you really can do anything if you just take a leap and have a go. And it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be fun. #miniaturepainting @warlordgames
I suspect a fair few of my friends on here will appreciate why I’m so happy about this.
After sorting all my paints out last month, I had a large tub full of pots that were just too far gone, and I put them aside to take to the tip.
But today, for some reason, I thought I’d just experiment with trying to bring my favourite old Tim Bitz back to life. It was little more than a thick, paste-like lump, but with a lot of elbow grease and acrylic medium, I managed to get not one, but two pots up and running again! This was always a favourite of mine, and these are probably about 20 years old. And now they’ll be gracing some new models!
Needless to say, I tried another colour and got Enchanted Blue going again, so I’ve now decided to work through the whole lot and see what else I can bring back from the dead! #miniatures #miniaturepainting

Finally sorted all my paints. Had to do some work to revive some of the older pots, but got most of them up and running again. Still have some of the really old Citadel inks, and they’re holding up surprisingly well. Now to set to work on some of my latest mini acquisitions!
