The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County is proud to be a funding partner of "Perscribing Arts as a Healthcare Tool in Forsyth County". The Arts Council funded an Arts on Perscription pilot study which allows physicians to perscribe dance, music, art or creative writing experiences as a social behavior that can improve their health and wellbeing. This innovative project brings together leadership from the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness at Senior Services, Inc., the Arts Council, Wake Forest University / School of Medicine and independent teaching artists. On Friday, February 13, we heard about findings from the pilot study and learned about the Arts Rx Program at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center that inspired the project.

The joy in this room was felt through the vibrating choir of audience voices singing along with the performers. It was a moving unity and celebration of culture. 40+ Stage Company is proud to present the first annual Festival of African-American Arts and Culture to commemorate February-Black History Month 2026. The theme of the Festival is to celebrate what was rooted in Africa and uniquely cultivated in America. The Festival featured individuals and groups from the community who performed on stage in the areas of song, music, dance, poetry, spoken word, and drumming. Also featured is an art exhibition that was curated by the Delta Arts Center featuring local visual artists and there was a display of theatrical costumes designed by the award-winning artist Frenchie Laverne Slade. Betsy Messick of the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts provided two presentations—one on Quilt Maker Faith Ringgold and another on Painter Romare Bearden. Short films were shown that were created by local youth who graduated from the Just Us program. These films were made under the creative direction of Nathan Ross Freeman, the Artistic Director of Authoring Action. Food was available for sale by Black Coffee and Cuisine. If you recognize an artist or guest please tag them in the comments!

Shout out to our friends at @allegacyfcu and WinstonNet who brought their expertise and skills to "Community Tech Day" at the @generationscenterws ! Their knowledgeable team members provided free tech support to members of our community, approaching each appointment with kindness and understanding. This is a beautiful reminder of how businesses in our community are finding innovative ways to use their resources to meet the needs of our neighbors! #communitythatcares
