STORY FOR CHANGE The Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in partnership with TigerFireRose Media, has continued screening the social impact film “Pile of Rubbish” for students across all Education Districts in the state. The event which was held in the Education District IV marks the second in the ongoing series aimed at promoting environmental consciousness and sustainable practices among young people. The screening, held at Sanya Senior Grammar School, Surulere, brought together hundreds of students and teachers who engaged in discussions on waste management, recycling, and the importance of community action in building a cleaner Lagos. Strategic partners, including Givo Africa, Sweep Foundation, and other sustainability advocates, joined the initiative to inspire behavioral change and encourage students to become environmental champions within their schools and communities. Through the Story for Change series, the Office of SDGs continues to leverage creative storytelling and film to drive public awareness on issues of climate action, responsible consumption, and sustainable urban living.

STORYTELLING FOR SUSTAINABILITY: Inspiring Change Through Film In a world where the power of storytelling continues to shape minds and drive transformation, the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in partnership with TigerFireRose Media, has embarked on an innovative journey to use film as a tool to educate, engage, and empower the next generation. The initiative, which will be rolled out across all Education Districts in Lagos, kicked off with the screening of a film titled “Pile of Rubbish”, a thought-provoking social impact film that explores themes of waste management, environmental responsibility, and personal responsibility. Far beyond the entertainment, the film serves as a mirror, reflecting the realities of environmental neglect and the power of strong conviction in building a cleaner environment. Students across schools are being immersed in the story, connecting emotionally with its message and drawing lessons about the role each person must play in safeguarding the planet. The screenings are designed not just to inform, but to ignite conversations and inspire young minds to think critically about sustainability and take real steps toward change. For the Office of SDGs, this initiative underscores its commitment to achieving the UN Agenda, particularly Goal 6 (Clean water and sanitation), 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 12 (Responsible consumption and production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life below water), 15 (Life on land) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by using creative platforms to nurture a generation that understands the value of sustainability and responsible living. As the screenings continue across schools, one thing is clear: the story of change has only just begun. With each student inspired, the movement for a cleaner, more sustainable Lagos grows stronger. For us at the SDGs’ Office, we believe true transformation begins when awareness meets action and sometimes, all it takes to start the journey is a single story.

The Management and Staff of the Office received TigerFireRose and partner, Givo Africa, for an exclusive preview of the film “Pile of Rubbish” - a powerful social impact production that sheds light on the critical challenges of waste management and recycling in grassroots communities. The film is scheduled to be screened across local communities and schools, with the aim of educating, inspiring, and mobilizing students and residents to take action on the urgent need for effective waste management. It also highlights the benefits of recycling while showcasing the economic opportunities available within the waste-to-wealth value chain. The preview further gave insight into the pressing environmental and social realities surrounding waste management, while emphasizing the urgent need for collaborative efforts between government, NGOs and citizens in driving sustainable environmental practices.
