In this grey paper box, tied with a white ribbon, rests the result of Gemma’s research journey, developed through days of investigation within the extensive image collection of the @nyplpicturecollection .
The project reflects on how photographic archives shape collective memory and our understanding of the present. It reveals the archive as a non-neutral space, where selection, classification, and preservation expose hidden biases and determine what is remembered or forgotten, with a focus on fashion imagery, objects, and contemporary culture.
