The Dream That Became a Home
Every city has its hidden stories. Since 2014, mine was witnessing a homeless woman, a figure of constant movement, in and out of the shadows under the bridge of her “home”. I once heard people like her call themselves “the city’s street rats” 城市的過街老鼠 —abandoned, unseen. It was then a dream in my heart: a dream of a better home for them，who is also part of our city.
In 2020, that dream found a name on our drawing board: HOMEDIT. Our mission was, and is, to edit the very idea of HOME for our community.
What you see today is HOMEDIT 3.0. but to call it a third version is to tell only a fraction of the story. It is the culmination of over 50 iterations, a tapestry woven from the passion of every designer who joined this cause. Every sketch, every mockup, every model—each was a vital step on this path.
To our incredible and phenomenal team with kindness: look at what we have built together. ThANK YOU for your relentless effort, for making each step better, and for moving us one step closer to dignity for a part of our community that has been overlooked for too long. This is a testament to our persistence.
But this is not the end of our design, nor the end of our journey. This is just the beginning.
I was reminded of our “why” in a conversation with 成叔 when we met him. Before he even saw the kit, he told me he didn’t need anything from us. But when he saw it… his eyes lit up. 成叔 ：「嘩！哩個好靚，哩個我可以，哩個100分。我可以有覺好瞓同煮飯沖咖啡！好多人都會想要。」Uncle Shing, “Wow! This is so beautiful,” he said. “This one, I can use. This is 100%. I can finally have a good sleep, I can cook, and brew coffee! A lot of people will want this.”
In that moment, my tears flowed down. We had done it right. 🥹🥲
