📢 NEW STATEMENT: FY27 House Funding for Global Education
Today, the House of Representatives released its FY27 bill for the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee, which includes $691.5 million for the Nita M. Lowey Basic Education Fund.
While this demonstrates continued commitment to global education, it remains significantly below the FY23 level of $970 million. We are also concerned by the limited $121.6 million allocated for multilateral partnerships like @gpforeducation and @educannotwait which are critical in reaching the most vulnerable children with high-impact, cost-effective support.
We thank House leaders for their continued support and urge Congress to restore robust funding that reflects the scale of global need.

📚✨ This week is Global Action Week for Education, and the theme is education financing — because every child deserves the chance to learn.
Last month, we secured 110 signatures on a House letter in support of global education funding. Now a new Senate letter led by Senator Van Hollen needs support before April 28.
Your voice keeps this momentum going.

We are deeply concerned by the President’s FY27 budget request released on Friday, which proposes a 30% cut to the State Department and international programs — and provides no funding at all for international basic education. At a moment when children around the world are facing unprecedented barriers to learning, eliminating these investments would undo decades of bipartisan progress and jeopardize the futures of millions of learners.
But we’re encouraged by the strong bipartisan support we’ve seen in Congress. A recent House letter championing international basic education secured 110 sign-ons, demonstrating that lawmakers across the political spectrum understand that education is essential to global stability, economic opportunity, and human rights. We are urging Congress to restore the $970 million needed for international basic education, including $152 million for multilateral partnerships that reach the most marginalized children.
