We were so privileged to be joined by Sara Cook in our Family Sunday Session today. Sara is the artist responsible for the beautiful Cherry Blossom Project, currently installed in our Nave 🌸 The beautiful pink mandus, or dumplings, are made from naturally dyed silk in various shades of pink. Today our families had the chance to learn from Sara and make their own, as well as paper folding and paper scrunching activities for our younger visitors. We were so impressed, especially with those who had never seen before - beautiful! Thank you @sara.cook3 we had a great time and learned so much! #letscreate #familiesinmuseums #kidsinmuseums

We were blown away by the screen prints made by @queermindslondon yesterday during a creative community workshop at @gardenmuseumlearning . We spent the session thinking about weeds and how to capture them through botanical prints, inspired by the Lambeth Wilds installation by artist Katie Spragg. #creativehealth #queerminds #gardenmuseum #gardenmuseumlearning

We had a wonderful collaborative Tots session this morning. After learning about community gardens reading Luna Loves Gardening by Joseph Coelho and Fiona Lumbers, we took part in two special activities today. Our Family Learning Officer made instruments from recycled cans, dried beans and rice, while our Food Educator helped us make a delicious carrot and herb salad inspired by the story 🥕 We had so much fun! #letscreate #kidsinmuseums #familiesinmuseums

Today we welcomed @dahaewest to the studio kitchen to lead a cookery masterclass on quick Korean cuisine. A nice tie in with the Korean cherry blossom project - a display of silk mandus (dumplings) currently on display in the nave. In the class Da-Hae showed everyone how to make soy pickled onions, addictive seaweed rolls with dipping sauce, dumpling fried rice, stir fried courgettes and spicy sweet potato noodles. All dishes were full of flavour, so easy and quick to make, and taken from Da-Hae’s recent cookbook Balli-Balli (which means quickly quickly). Thanks for sharing your expert knowledge with us Da-Hae and thank you everyone for coming! Our next Sunday masterclass is on Sunday 7th June when Kathy Kordalis @kordalisk will be leading a hands on class on all the art of summer Greek mezze. Our cookery masterclasses are open to all and booking is available via the Garden Museum website.

We had the honour of being joined by author Jonathan Drori @jondroriuk in our Family Sunday Session today. He wowed us with his botanical facts and amazed us with his experiments - who knew CO2 was heavy? Well we do now, thanks to Jonathan and his wonderful book, The Stuff That Stuff is Made of. It’s jam packed with information on the things we make with plants and beautifully illustrated by Raxeene Maniquiz and Jiatong Liu. Inspired by this, we used one of the subjects of his talk, charcoal, to draw another, cotton and our Clore plants #letscreate #familiesinmuseums #kidsinmuseums

After reading There’s Broccoli in My Ice cream by Emily MacKenzie, we talked about all the vegetables we could think of (but never had in our ice cream) then used broccoli to print onto our ice cream pictures 🥦🍨 It was a busy session today, so lovely to see lots of new and returning faces. #letscreate #kidsinmuseums #familiesinmuseums

Beautiful botanical collages created in our Sunday Family Session today, with children aged 3-15 and their adults. These collages were inspired by our current free exhibition Jane Hammond: Angel’s Trumpet, Adder’s Tongue. The families first looked closely at the original artworks, noting some of the unusual items included, such as birds, fruit and butterflies, then used recycled magazines to create their own 💐🦋🦜🍅🥕 #letscreate #kidsinmuseums #familiesinmuseums

What happens on a school trip to the Garden Museum! 🐛🪱🌿 While our #SeedsOfExchange exhibition is on, pupils are enjoying special plant science sessions on the history and travels of the tea plant. We also visit the museum’s community garden in our local park to see creepy crawlies in our bug hotel and wormery! Visits to the Garden Museum are free for London state schools, with sessions covering all kinds of fascinating plant science topics from seeds and photosynthesis to soil science and climate change. Seeds of Exchange: Canton and London in the 1700s is open until 10 May. Find out more about free school visits on our website. With thanks to @artscapades_events
