One of the best parts about filming sports action is making sure the basketball tells the story JUST as much as the actors do. Every possession, reaction, mistake, and movement has to match the emotion of the scene.
In this game, the Waves were down 20, completely out of sync, frustrated, forcing shots, missing rotations, and struggling to find rhythm in a Game 7 championship atmosphere. We wanted the pressure and chaos to FEEL real on screen.
That’s why we spent several rehearsals working through every detail before filming. Huge shoutout to @crosscourt in Downtown LA for their amazing space to experiment, build the choreography, sharpen the skills, and bring the intensity to life.

Behind the scenes on the set of 9-1-1 in 2024
Sports choreography is a lot more than drawing up plays.
On this one, @justinskinner08 was coordinating the football action — and @coachhpjr was there lending a hand to help bring the sequence together.
There are a lot of moving parts when sports meets television.
Precision.
Detail.
Timing.
Safety.
Every movement has to look authentic for the audience, while making sure the athletes and actors stay protected.
That’s the craft.
Working with directors, stunt teams, athletes, and camera crews to create sports action that feels real — not staged.
Because when it’s done right, the viewer doesn’t see the choreography.
They just believe the moment.
