Good evening, Gamebox Fam! This post is for my daughter Rori. She made me something special for Mother's Day but forgot it on her desk...so I received it today. In Ingles..."My mama is special because I go to 5 Below on Fridays". She is in a dual-language Spanish/English class and can speak and understand Spanish very well. My daughter is special because in so many ways. She is kind and brilliant and at 6 years...understands empathy and compassion. She's been dealing with some issues at school with kids calling her Black and ugly...and making fun of the texture of her hair. I never expected for her to deal with racism in Kindergarten, but she continues to walk with her head high...full of love, grace, and pride for her culture. It starts at home...children repeat what they hear and mirror the values of those responsible for shaping their young minds. Despite all that...she knows that she is Black and Beautiful...afro puffs and all. She is THAT girl. "A daughter is one of the most beautiful gifts this world has to give" ~ Laurel Atherton

I don't do all of this alone...they hold me down and support all of my Aquarian dreams and visions. I don't say that lightly either. Good evening Gamebox Fam! Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful...courageous...resilient...amazing mommas in the world! This Mother's Day hit a little different. This same day last year I almost lost my life to a very aggressive sepsis infection and pneumonia. This same day last year my husband had to peel me off my bedroom floor and carry me into the shower so that I would be whisked away to the hospital with dignity. This same day last year my children watched from the balcony as I was loaded into the back of an ambulance not knowing I was circling the drain. Temp 105...blood pressure 200/120...blood sugar 500+. I couldn't walk for 3 months...my immune system was completely wiped out by the antibiotics...and I had terrible allergic reactions to almost everything. I waited 18 years to see my son Bryce graduate from high school and ended up in the ER on his graduation day. I watched him graduate on YouTube...while laying in a hospital bed at PIH Downey. My tribe and the staff at PIH loved me back to life...and for that...I am able to sit here today and have gratitude for all the ups and downs of motherhood. I dedicate this day to my husband Romel, who held the family down while I recovered and loved me through the pain. To my mother Donnetta, who prayed over me in the hospital and begged me not to give up...whose tears hydrated my soul and made me remember all that I had to lose by giving up. To my brothers Terrance and Troy, who stood 10 toes down for their sister. To my SIL Mia, who became the sister I always needed. To my besties Espy and Mary who were still down to hit the streets...even with me in a wheelchair. To my niece and nephew Trinity and Neo, whose hugs made me feel alive. To my godson Darrell, who brought Gamebox back to life. To my Gamebox Fam, for all the prayers and continued support. Most importantly, to my children Bryce, Romari, Rori, and Orion. They are THE REASON...for everything. Happy 5D Friday...iykyk💫 Today I took a lil stroll to visit our peeps @citygrindcpt I wanted to grab some grub but I really wanted to surprise their cashier Jayden @moneyslav8 with a new Smash Bros video game. Jayden is the best kind of employee to have. He is polite, consistent, and his energy gives "I love my job". He has always been super sweet and welcoming to our family...and I heard him mention a few times that he wanted the Smash Bros game. It's hard out here and video games can be expensive. We are excited to welcome our newest volunteer Matthew @matthew39056 Volunteering with Gamebox is a lot fun mixed in with some life lessons that go a long way. More importantly, our volunteers are given an opportunity to to use their love of gaming to help others in a meaningful way. Volunteering with Gamebox also comes with some cool perks such as Gamebox swag, gift cards, movie tickets, and more.
