BB&M UPCOMING EXHIBITION BB&M is pleased to present “When Space Becomes Painting,“ a solo exhibition of the leading Korean architect Byoung Cho, whose practice is distinguished by a refined sensitivity to elements of nature, land, wind, and sky. Organized in partnership with Jiyoon Lee of SUUM Project, renowned for curating high-profile international exhibitions in Seoul, the show traces Cho’s decades-long engagement with the concept of “space” across the mediums of painting, installation, maquettes, and drawing. BB&M NEWS “Empty Garden – A Liminoid Journey to Nowhere in Somewhere (2020),” Jinjoon Lee’s dissertation for the DPhil, University of Oxford, has been acquired by the Ashmolean Museum for its permanent collection. Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean is recognized as the world’s first university museum and one of the foundational institutions of Western intellectual history. This marks the first time that this venerable institution has acquired a living artist’s doctoral dissertation and the work of a contemporary Korean artist. Produced as a 10-meter Korean paper scroll, Lee’s work reconsiders the Joseon literati concept of uiwon—an imagined garden—within today’s digital environment, bringing together AI and data technology with East Asian aesthetics of wandering and emptiness. 이진준의 옥스퍼드대학교 박사논문 「빈정원 – 어디에나 있는, 어디에도 없는 곳으로의 리미노이드 여행」이 옥스포드 애쉬몰린 박물관에 영구 소장됩니다. 1683년 설립된 애쉬몰린 박물관은 세계 최초의 대학 박물관으로 서양 지성사의 근간을 이루는 대표적 기관으로 평가됩니다. 다빈치와 미켈란젤로 등 거장들의 작품을 소장한 박물관이 생존 작가의 박사논문을 정식 구입해 영구 컬렉션에 포함한 것은 매우 이례적인 사례이며 첫 번째 한국 현대 작가의 작품이라는 점에서 더욱 의미를 가집니다. 10미터 한지 두루마리 형식으로 제작된 이 작품은 조선시대 문인의 ‘의원(意園)’ 개념을 오늘의 디지털 환경 속에서 다시 사유하며, AI와 데이터 기술에 ‘거닐기’와 ‘비움’이라는 동양 미학을 결합합니다. BB&M NEWS “Lee Bul: From 1998 to Now,” a comprehensive survey of the pioneering practice of Lee Bul, one of Asia’s leading contemporary artists, opens at M+ on March 14, 2026. Following its acclaimed run at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, the exhibition at M+ presents over 200 works from the artist’s studio and major institutional and private collections across Asia and beyond, including 49 early works from the late 1990s to early 2000s. Featured works include iconic architectural installations from the “Mon grand récit series,” two-dimensional works from the “Perdu” series, and the widely celebrated “Cyborg” and “Anagram” series; during the exhibition, M+ Cinema will also screen performance works from the late 1980s to early 1990s. Co-curated by Doryun Chong, Artistic Director and Chief Curator of M+, and June Young Kwak, Head of Exhibitions at the Leeum Museum of Art, the exhibition will subsequently travel to M HKA (Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp) in Belgium and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, continuing through late 2027. 아시아를 대표하는 현대미술 작가 이불의 대규모 서베이 전 ⟪이불: 1998년 이후⟫가 2026년 3월 14일 M+에서 개막합니다. 리움 미술관에서 성황리에 막을 내린 전시에 이어 M+에서 개최되는 이번 전시는 작가 스튜디오와 아시아·해외 주요 기관 및 개인 소장품을 포함한 200여 점을 선보입니다. 여기에는 1990년대 후반부터 2000년대 초반에 제작된 49점도 포함됩니다. 주요 출품작으로는 〈Mon grand récit〉 연작의 건축적 설치, 〈Perdu〉 연작의 평면 작품, 그리고 널리 알려진 〈Cyborg〉 및 〈Anagram〉 연작이 포함되며, 전시 기간 동안 M+ 시네마에서는 1980년대 후반부터 1990년대 초반의 초기 퍼포먼스 작품도 상영됩니다. BB&M UPCOMING EXHIBITION BB&M is delighted to present “Hanging Around,” opening on March 7. The exhibition brings together new and old works by artists and friends of the gallery, complemented by creations of young Korean furniture designers—chairs, tables, and lighting—slipping comfortably into the show’s low-key attitude. Favoring humor and wit over polemic, and non-committal inquisitiveness over dogma, it offers a companionable experience. Cool, smart, and lighthearted by turns, the works remind us that contemporary art can still edify and enrich the intellect and the senses without being entirely joyless. BB&M NEWS Lee Bul’s “Willing To Be Vulnerable – Transparent Balloon” (2025), newly commissioned by the Amorepacific Museum, has been installed in the atrium of Amorepacific’s Global Headquarters in Seoul.
