Escala I, 2026
Media: stepped structure; wood; headphones; audio (11 min)
Dimensions: 150 × 120 × 57 cm
Duration: 11 min (audio)
Edition of 3
Design: Alban le Henry
Sound Composition: Carlota Gadea Marqués
A stepped listening-and-video station referencing the interior stairs of the safareig.
The structure frames the encounter as a descent—into reservoir, echo, trace—holding an eleven-minute readaptation of the El Uc score alongside a video loop filmed on the day of the performance. The moving image returns as a brief apparition: choreography held as residue rather than document.

Carlota Gadea Marqués is a composer and musician working at the intersection of electronic composition and expanded sound practice. Rooted in sound as a primary medium—built through analog synthesis, field recordings, alternative tunings, and intensive processing—her work investigates transmission and material transformation. Alongside releases and live performance, she develops installation and performance works that extend sound through objects, spatial staging, and moving image, in collaboration with designers and makers.

Rastres d’un Crit
Opening Friday 13th March
at Galeria Tambien
A ceramic bucket becomes a resonant chamber: dripping, cracking, dissolving—elemental sounds of ice in collapse amplified through the vessel, transforming a utilitarian form into a fragile monument and instrument. Beneath the rim, a mirror conceals the speaker and returns the viewer’s reflection from within the empty volume, turning listening into an act of seeing.

“Earth records its history in water: contained, suspended, frozen—and in the end, salt.” In Rastres d’un Crit, Carlota Gadea Marqués brings together acoustic sculpture—with designer Alban le Henry—image, reflection, and process-led drawing to treat absence as material and water’s transformation as trace. Starting from a drained safareig in Ibiza and field recordings of a retreating glacier in East Greenland, the exhibition unfolds as a field of traces where sound, language, and surface act as record—holding to a single premise: what disappears leaves a mark.

I was lucky to see “El Uc last night, a music and performance piece created by Carlota @gadea_____ with the Russian butoh dancer Sofya Shaikut @sofya_shaikut . The piece was truly extraordinary. I love butoh, but it was the first time I witnessed a contemporary version carried by such a brutally exquisite musical composition. The title “El Uu” refers to an ancestral cry of the farmers of Ibiza, used to call to one another across the valleys—signaling for help, announcing an arrival, or invoking the rain. Structured in four chapters, with Gadea’s original composition unfolding through analog synthesis and traditional Ibicenco instruments, Sofya’s performance was a visceral, poignant and full of humour invocation of the natural forces around us and a call to ecological urgency. Staged in the North of the island, far from the touristic disaster, it took place at SAFA @safa.reig , an art program in the forest, repurpusing an abandoned water reservoir (safareig)—a setting that resembled a Roman theater, symbolically evocative of the cultural ruins left by our collapsing world. ‘El Uc’ is a live choreographic and sonic work constructed as a four-act score for one performer.
It unfolds through eight scenes, each anchored in a precise compositional logic: temperature, collapse, invocation, return. Developed as a durational encounter, the work situates the body under environmental and acoustic pressure.
Performed by Sofya Shaikut, with composition by Gadea and speaker design by Alban le Henry, the piece unfolds as a meditation on ecological memory and renewal.

Hotel Miks, Three Channel Video, 4K, sound, color, 12’08’’
The three-channel film installation Hotel Miks (2023) observes men playing chess in their daily café in the same town. Lightly inspired by the Stefan Zweig’s final novella The Royal Game (Schachnovelle, 1941)—in which main protagonist prisoned in a hotel room by Nazi’s and chess becomes a survival mechanism in the face of fascism; a hotel also is a compelling metaphor for authoritarian states like Turkey; although featuring some alluring amenities, it is never intended to become a home for opponents, non Muslim and non Turkish communities.
